Nora and Sabrina Krajewski completed their second straight undefeated doubles season on Friday, winning a flight one doubles championship at the AA Girls Tennis State Tournament.
The doubles title helped lead the Gazelles to a 5th place finish as a team. Also in doubles play, Karalyn Koerner and Meagan Scott fell in the 5th-place semifinals at flight 2, and Sienna Culka and Elise Koller fell in the consolation finals at flight 3.
Yankton was led in singles play by a 2nd-place finish at flight 1 by Nora Krajewski, followed by her sister Sabrina, who placed 4th at flight 2.
Rounding out singles play for the Gazelles, Koerner and Scott were the consolation champions at flights 3 and 4, respectively. Culka and Koller were eliminated in the consolation semifinals at flights 5 and 6.
As a team, Yankton placed 5th in the tournament with 257 points. Rapid City Stevens claimed the team title with 486.5 points.
Yankton Bucks Football got back into the win column on Friday with a 14-7 win over the Brookings Bobcats at Crane-Youngworth Field.
The Bucks’ defense held the Bobcats to only 126 yards of total offense, with 80 of those yards coming on Brookings’ lone scoring drive.
Yankton’s offense was led by 98 yards and a touchdown through the air for Tate Beste. Kicker Kevin Ortiz went 2 for 2 on field goals, with a long of 39.
Yankton has their final home game of the regular season on Friday, hosting Tea Area at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Yankton Gazelles Soccer had their season come to an end on Saturday with a 1-0 loss to Harrisburg in the Class AA Playoff Quarterfinals.
Harrisburg’s Nyah Aware scored the lone goal of the match, as her header barely crossed the goal line. Yankton goalkeeper Elaina Mohnen was credited with 16 saves in the loss.
Yankton ends their season with a 9-4-3 record. The Gazelles graduated five seniors from this year’s team. Sienne Tacke, Hannah Kruger, Faye Ireland, Ava Haar, and Emily Tramp.
Yankton Cross Country took 3rd in the girls’ race and 4th in the boys’ race at the ESD Conference Meet on Saturday in Mitchell.
The Gazelles were led by All-ESD honoree Nora Youmans, who placed 12th. Also for the Gazelles, Avery Wuestewald finished 20th, Abby Johanneson placed 22nd, Rilyn Jackson finished 23rd, and Delaney Youmans took 29th.
The Bucks had two All-ESD honorees on Saturday, as Harrison Krajewski placed 11th, followed by Bryton Olson in 12th. Rounding out the race for the Bucks, Luke Feimer was 17th, Gabe Rock placed 19th, and Isaac Paulson finished 33rd.
Yankton has one more meet in their regular season, as they will compete on October 16th in Huron at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
Mount Marty Football ended their two-game skid on Saturday with a 31-14 win over Doane in Crete, Nebraska.
Quarterback Rugby Ryken completed 20 of his 27 passes, recording 170 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Lancers’ defense recorded two interceptions in the win, one from Brock Lubbers and one from Daniel Pierce.
Mount Marty is back on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Sioux Center, Iowa, to take on the Dordt Defenders.
Mount Marty Volleyball picked up their 10th win of the season on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of the Briar Cliff Chargers.
Caitlin Guenther led the Lancers with 11 kills in the win. Julia Weber tallied a game-high 35 assists.
The Lancers travel to Orange City, Iowa, for their next match, taking on Northwestern on Wednesday.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer had mixed results on Sunday in their GPAC doubleheader against Morningside.
The Lancer women played the Mustangs to a 2-2 draw. Rhyli Grim recorded a brace in the tie, scoring both Lancer goals.
The Lancer men fell to the Mustangs in their matchup, 2-0. Esteban Gomez recorded 8 saves in the loss.
Mount Marty is home again on Wednesday, hosting Doane in a GPAC doubleheader. The men play first at 5:00 PM, with the women to follow.
The South Dakota Coyotes picked up their first road win of the season on Saturday, defeating Indiana State 19-14.
Coyote running back LJ Phillips continued his hot start to the season, rushing for 187 yards and a touchdown. USD kicker Will Leyland went 4 for 4 on field goals, with a long of 42 yards.
USD is on the road again next Saturday, taking on the Northern Iowa Panthers in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits remained undefeated on Saturday with a dominant 31-3 victory over Northern Iowa for Hobo Day.
SDSU Quarterback Chase Mason threw for 251 yards in the win, recording 4 total touchdowns, 2 passing and 2 rushing.
The Jackrabbits hit the road for their next game, taking on Murray State in Murray, Kentucky, on Saturday.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are ranked #25 in the latest AP Football top 25 poll, following their 34-31 win over Maryland on Saturday.
Quarterback Dylan Raiola had an up-and-down day, throwing for 260 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Running back Emmett Johnson led all rushers with 176 yards on the ground.
The Huskers have a short week this week, as they travel to Minneapolis on Friday for a night game with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
