Yankton Bucks Football suffered their second defeat of the season last Friday night, losing to Sturgis 27-21.
Owen Eidsness had another impressive day despite the loss, bringing in 10 catches for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Bucks are now 4-2 with the loss, falling to 3rd in the 11AA standings. Sturgis is now 4th in the class with a 4-2 record of their own.
Yankton returns home this week to take on the Brookings Bobcats at Crane-Youngworth Field on Friday night.
Mount Marty Football fell to the #19-ranked Concordia Bulldogs on Saturday, 52-43, in Yankton.
The Lancers and Bulldogs both saw many peaks and valleys during the high-scoring affair. The Lancers trailed 31-7 early in the 3rd quarter, but a run of 28 unanswered points saw MMU take a 35-31 lead in the 4th. Three of the four scores belonged to the Bulldogs, who pulled away late to take the victory.
Lancer Quarterback Rugby Ryken threw 74 passes in the loss, completing 45 of them for 424 yards and 4 touchdowns. Freshman receiver Moshe Richmond had a breakout day for the Lancers, securing 11 catches for 164 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Lancers hit the road for their next game, traveling to Crete, Nebraska, on Saturday for a matchup with the Doane Tigers.
The Mount Marty Lancers were swept by their in-state rivals, Dakota Wesleyan, on Saturday in a GPAC Volleyball matchup.
The three-set match ended 25-13, 25-18, 25-20, in favor of the Tigers. Julia Weber led the Lancers with 17 assists, 9 kills, and 9 digs in the loss.
The Lancers return home for their next match, hosting Morningside on October 10th at Cimpl Arena.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer had mixed results in their GPAC doubleheader with the Northwestern Red Raiders on Saturday in Orange City, Iowa.
The Lancer men were defeated by the Red Raiders in their match 5-1. Oliver Danzer scored the lone goal for the Lancers, with Esteban Gomez recording 6 saves.
The Lancer women blanked Northwestern in their matchup, 3-0. Rhyli Grim grabbed a brace with 2 goals for MMU, while Mika Moreira rounded out the Lancers’ scoring. Brooklyn McNac made 5 saves for the shutout in the net.
The Lancers return home on Sunday for a doubleheader with Morningside at Crane-Youngworth Field. The men play first at 1:00 PM, with the women to follow.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer begin postseason play tomorrow night, with the Gazelles at home and the Bucks on the road.
The Bucks enter the postseason as the #9 seed. They will travel to Sioux Falls tomorrow for a matchup with O’Gorman beginning at 5:00 PM.
The Gazelles are the #7 seed in the playoffs. They will host the #10-seeded Rapid City Central tomorrow night at 5:00. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 4:00 with Brayden Butler on the call.
The Class AA Boys Golf State Tournament begins today at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City.
The Yankton Bucks are looking to build off of their success at the ESD Conference Meet this past week, where Yankton finished 3rd as a team.

The South Dakota Coyotes celebrated Dakota Days on Saturday with a 49-24 win over Murray State.
LJ Phillips Jr continued his impressive season with 244 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns on 24 carries. Quarterback Aidan Bouman added another 3 touchdowns through the air.
The Coyotes are now 3-3 with the win. They are set to travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, for their next game against the Indiana State Sycamores.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits opened Missouri Valley Football Conference play with a 35-30 win over Youngstown State on Saturday.
Julius Loughridge led the Jackrabbits’ offense with 176 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win. Former Nebraska Cornhusker Alex Bullock led the team in receiving with 10 catches for 162 yards.
The Jackrabbits are now 5-0 on the year heading into a home matchup with Northern Iowa next Saturday.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers got back into the win column on Saturday with a 38-27 win over Michigan State.
Running back Emmett Johnson powered the Huskers’ offense with 3 rushing touchdowns. Javin Wright impressed on the defensive side of the ball, leading Nebraska with 10 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, and 0.5 sacks.
The Huskers hit the road next week for a game against the Maryland Terrapins in College Park, Maryland.
