Yankton Bucks Football remains atop the Class 11AA Media poll this week, earning 22 of 24 first-place votes.
The Bucks are 4-1 on the year, coming off a 35-28 win over Pierre last week. The Huron Tigers are second, taking the other 2 first-place votes.
Pierre, Tea Area, and Sturgis rounded out the top-5 in 11AA. The Avon Pirates remain highly ranked as well, staying at #2 in Class 9B.
The Yankton Gazelles sit 4th as a team following the opening day of the ESD Girls Tennis Tournament in Yankton.
The Gazelles had three athletes earn spots in the semifinals of their individual flights, Nora Krajewski, Sabrina Krajewski, and Karalyn Koerner. Nora and Sabrina also advanced to the semifinals in doubles play, as did Koerner and Meagan Scott.
Today’s matches will be held at both the Yankton High School Tennis Courts and Memorial Park, starting at 8:00 AM this morning.
Yankton Bucks golf placed 3rd at yesterday’s ESD Conference meet, finishing 9 strokes off 1st place.
The Bucks shot a 295 as a team, led by a 1-over 72 from Elijah Larson, who finished 8th in the event. Kai Cody and Brayden Byrkeland shot 74, Gus Sprakel shot 75, and Easton Vellek finished at 78.
Next up for the Bucks is the Class AA State Tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Meadowbrook in Rapid City.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball travels to Sioux Falls tonight for a matchup with the Jefferson Cavaliers.
Yankton enters the contest 15th in Class AA with a 4-9 overall record. The Cavaliers are 11th in the class at 4-4.
First serve from Sioux Falls Jefferson High School is scheduled for 6:30 PM this evening.
Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance has a varsity invitational tonight at O’Gorman High School in Sioux Falls. Events are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.
Mount Marty Women’s Golf is 4th as a team after day one of the York University Fall Invite in York, Nebraska.
Mount Marty shot 349 as a team. Jaden Kortan currently leads the Lancers, as she is 8th individually after shooting an 86 on day one. Jada Buse and Trinity Palmquist sit one stroke back of Kortan, tied for 9th.
The tournament concludes today in York, Nebraska.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer will travel to Seward, Nebraska, tomorrow night for a GPAC doubleheader against Concordia.
The Lancer Men enter with a 2-2-2 overall record, while the women are 5-4 on the year.
The men will kick off first at 5:30 PM tomorrow night, with the women to follow.
Northwestern Red Raiders Head Football Coach Matt McCarty will be the featured guest speaker at tomorrow’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting.
McCarty is in his tenth season at the helm for Northwestern, having led the Red Raiders to a national title in 2022.
A meal will be available for purchase beginning at 11:15 AM at the River Rock Event Center, with the meeting set to begin at noon. The public is invited to attend.
