Yankton Bucks Football picked up a last-second win over the Pierre Governors last Friday, as Tate Beste found Owen Eidsness to put Yankton up 34-28 with six seconds remaining.
A Kevin Ortiz extra point and a fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff by Will Sager would seal the Bucks’ 35-28 win to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Beste ended the day completing 26 passes for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns. Eidness was the leading receiver with 10 catches, 121 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
The Bucks travel to Sturgis for their next game. Kickoff on Friday is scheduled for 7:00 PM central, with coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 6:00.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball fell to Aberdeen Central on Saturday, 3-1 in Aberdeen.
Burkley Olson led the Gazelles with 13 kills and 15 digs in the loss. Madison Gukeisen (Goo-ky-sin) added 5 kills and 5 blocks.
The Gazelles travel to Sioux Falls tomorrow for a matchup with the Jefferson Cavaliers. First serve is set for 6:30 PM.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer were swept by Aberdeen Central on Saturday, in their final home games of the regular season.
The Bucks fell 3-1 in game one. Jack Pedersen scored a goal to put the Bucks up 1-0 in the first half. Aberdeen would score 3 unanswered goals in the second half to claim the victory.
The Gazelles were shut out in their matchup with the Golden Eagles, as Aberdeen took a 2-0 win.
The Bucks and Gazelles end their regular season on Thursday with a road matchup against Sioux Falls Washington.
Mount Marty Volleyball picked up their second GPAC win of the season on Saturday, defeating Waldorf 3-2.
Caitlin Guenther led MMU with 14 kills, followed by 13 from Jaya Wachholtz. Julia Weber added 9 kills and 35 assists.
The Lancers are now 9-8 overall, 2-4 in conference play. They travel to Sioux Center, Iowa on Friday to take on the Dordt Defenders.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer had mixed results in their doubleheader against Dordt on Saturday, drawing the men’s game and losing the women’s game.
The Lancer men played the Defenders to a 1-1 draw. Andreas Socratous scored for MMU, assisted by Arthur Rodriguez. Juan Pablo Navia stopped 6 shots in net.
The Lancer women were defeated 6-0 in their matchup with Dordt. The Lancers recorded 4 shots on goal, compared to 7 for Dordt.
The Lancers travel to Seward, Nebraska, on Wednesday for a GPAC doubleheader against Concordia. The men play first at 5:30 PM, with the women to follow.
Yankton Bucks Golf travels to Brandon, South Dakota, today for the ESD Conference Meet.
The event will be held at Brandon Golf Course. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM this morning.
Mount Marty Women’s Golf travels to York, Nebraska, today to open the two-day York University Fall Invite. Tee time is set for 10:00 AM.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis begins ESD Tournament play today at the YHS Tennis Courts.
Day one of the competition begins at 2:00 PM this afternoon. The Tournament concludes tomorrow.
Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance has a varsity invitational tomorrow at O’Gorman High School in Sioux Falls. Events are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.
The South Dakota Coyotes opened Missouri Valley Football Conference play with a 51-13 loss to #1-ranked North Dakota State on Saturday.
The Coyote offense was held to 88 yards rushing in the loss. Reid Watkins led the way with 39 yards on 8 carries. NDSU Quarterback Cole Payton threw for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns, adding 102 yards and another score on the ground.
The Coyotes return home this week for their Dakota Days game against Murray State. Kickoff from Vermillion is set for 2:00 PM Saturday.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits remained undefeated on Saturday with a 51-7 victory over Mercyhurst.
Quarterback Chase Mason threw for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win. The Jackrabbits outgained Mercyhurst on offense, 469 yards to 154.
SDSU travels to Youngstown State next week, as they open conference play against the Penguins. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
