Yankton High School will enshrine three inductees into their Athletic Hall of Fame tomorrow afternoon at the YHS Commons.
This year’s inductees are Megan (Hilson) Hohenthaner, J.J. Hejna and Rob Ness.
Hohenthaner was a four-time track and field state champion, and on three state championship cross country teams for YHS, earning an individual state championship as a junior.
Hejna shined in multiple sports for the Bucks, earning a Class AA High Jump State Championship, an event he holds the YHS record in. Hejna was also a two-time all-state selection in football, and was a 2nd-team all-state selection in basketball.
Ness had a hand in four state championships in track in 1996, winning individual titles in the 100 and 200, and as part of the 400 and 800 relay teams. Ness was also an all-state defensive back in football in 1997.
The new inductees will be honored tomorrow at 5:00 PM at Yankton High School.
Mount Marty Goalkeeper Brooklyn McNac has been selected as the GPAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
McNac record 9 saves in a 1-0 shutout of Dakota Wesleyan to earn the honor. She becomes the second Lancer in program history to earn a GPAC weekly honor.
McNac and the Lancer will host Midland tonight as part of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The men play first at 5:00 PM with the women to follow.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball were swept last night in a road matchup with the Sioux Falls Lincoln Patriots.
The Patriots won the match 25-14, 25-12, 25-15. Nora Schramm led the Gazelles with 6 kills and a block. Burkley Olson added 4 kills in the loss.
Yankton, 4-8, travels to Aberdeen Central on Saturday. Start time is 2 p.m.
Augustana University Head Football Coach Jerry Olszewski will be the featured guest speaker at today’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting.
The meeting will be held at the River Rock Event Center. A meal will be available for purchase beginning at 11:15, with the meeting slated to begin at noon. The public is invited to attend.
Yankton Bucks Golf placed 5th out of 14 teams yesterday at the Watertown Invitational Boys’ Golf Tournament at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.
Yankton shot 311 as a team, led by a 75 from Elijah Larson, who placed 13th individually. Rounding out the Bucks’ scoring, Gus Sprakel finished at 78. Easton Vellek and Easton Schelhaas each shot 79. Kai Cody shot 82, and Brayden Byrkeland shot 87.
Next up for the Bucks in the ESD Conference Championships on Monday in Brandon.
Mount Marty Golf placed 3rd in the men’s division and 6th in the women’s division at the MMU Invitational.
The two-day event saw the Lancer men shoot 600 as a team to take 3rd. Wout Kerkhofs finished 3rd individually with an even par.
The Lancer women finished at 699 for the event. Abigail Greenhof was the top finisher for MMU, placing 17th with a 165.
The Lancer women travel to the York Fall Invitational, September 29th and 30th, for their next event. Next up for the Mount Marty men is the Mustang Derby, October 6th and 7th at Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis has a varsity triangular tomorrow at Sioux Falls Washington High School.
The Gazelles will face Washington at 9:00 AM before ending the event against Harrisburg at 11:30 AM.
Yankton Cross Country hosts a varsity invitational tomorrow afternoon at Fox Run Golf Course. Varsity girls run at 5:05 with the varsity boys scheduled for 5:30.
