Yankton Gazelles Volleyball got back into the win column last night with a three-set sweep of the Vermillion Tanagers.
Burkley Olson led the Gazelles attack with 10 kills, followed closely by Tyan Beste with 9. Setters Alaina Nelson (22) and Brenna Elwood (15) combined for 37 assists in the victory.
The victory is the third in the last four matches for Yankton. They return to action tonight, taking on Sioux Falls Lincoln in Sioux Falls at 7:00 PM.
Yankton Bucks Football remains atop the Class 11AA Media Polls, despite their loss to Harrisburg this past weekend.
The Bucks earned 16 first-place votes, with the other 5 votes going to second-place Huron. Pierre, Sturgis, and Tea Area round out the 11AA top-5.
Two other area teams were represented in this week’s poll, with the Bon Homme Cavaliers receiving votes in 9A, and the Avon Pirates ranked 2nd in 9B.
Augustana University Head Football Coach Jerry Olszewski will be the featured guest speaker at tomorrow’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting.
The meeting will be held at the River Rock Event Center. A meal will be available for purchase beginning at 11:15, with the meeting slated to begin at noon. The public is invited to attend.
Mount Marty Golf is second in the men’s division, and seventh in the women’s division after the opening day of the MMU Invite at Tatanka Golf Club.
The Lancer men shot a 297 as a team, 9 strokes back of 1st place Morningside. MMU’s Wout Kerkhofs holds the individual lead in the tournament, finishing day one at four under. Fellow Lancer Leo Garcia is tied for 3rd at 72.
The Lancer women shot 361 on day one, led by an 85 from Abigail Greenhoff and an 89 from Jaden Kortan.
The tournament concludes today at Tatanka Golf Club near Niobrara, Nebraska.
Mount Marty Volleyball travels to Omaha, Nebraska, tomorrow night for a GPAC matchup with the College of Saint Mary.
The Lancers are 8-7 on the season, 1-3 in GPAC play, after splitting their non-conference matchups with York and Haskell Indian Nations University over the weekend.
First serve from Omaha is set for 7:30 PM tomorrow night.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer return home tomorrow night to host Midland in a GPAC doubleheader.
The Lancer Men are 2-2 to start their campaign, coming off a loss on Saturday to Dakota Wesleyan in their GPAC opener.
The Lancer Women enter with a 4-3 record, 1-0 in conference play, after their 1-0 win over DWU on Saturday.
The men are scheduled to play first at 5:00 PM, with the women to follow. Both games will be held at Crane-Youngworth Field tomorrow night.
Yankton Bucks Golf travels to Watertown today for a varsity invitational at Cattail Golf Course.
Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM this morning.
Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance will be in Brandon tonight for a varsity invitational at Brandon Valley High School.
Events are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.
