Mount Marty Volleyball started their season with three wins out of four matches at this past weekend’s Blue Angel Bash in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The action began on Friday, with the Lancers winning six of their seven sets played, defeating Mount Mary, 3-1, and Michigan-Dearborn, 3-0.
The Lancers would split their matches on Saturday, picking up another win over Mount Mary in a 3-0 sweep. MMU’s lone loss of the weekend came to Saint Mary of the Woods, 3-0.
Caitlin Guenther led the Lancers over the four-match stretch, recording team highs in kills with 32 and blocks with 12. Brianna Even set up the attack with 62 assists over the weekend.
The Lancers are back on the road next weekend for a set of four games over two days in Oskaloosa, Iowa. MMU will face Clarke and Southwestern on Friday, before taking on Graceland and William Penn on Saturday.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis dropped their first match of the season on Friday, as they split their duels against Watertown and Rapid City Stevens.
The Gazelles defeated Watertown 6-3, with Nora Krajewski, Sabrina Krajewski, Karalyn Koerner, and Meagan Scott all going undefeated.
The Raiders would flip the script in the other matchup, as Yankton fell 6-3. Sabrina and Nora Krajewski went undefeated again in the loss. The Gazelles were unable to field a full team in the loss, with two matches forfeited.
The Gazelles are 5-1 following last week’s matches. They are scheduled to travel to Brookings on August 29th and 30th in a two-day event.
Yankton Bucks Golf tied for 3rd in a five-team field on Friday at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
Yankton shot a 304 as a team to tie with the Harrisburg Tigers. Easton Vellek placed 9th individually with a 74, four strokes off the top spot. Vellek was followed by Elijah Larson at 76, and Brayden Byrkeland and Kai Cody at 77.
Brandon Valley claimed the top spot as a team with a 286, followed by Sioux Falls Lincoln in 2nd. Sioux Falls Washington rounded out the event in 5th at 307.
Bucks golf returns to action tomorrow at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre. Tee time is set for 10:00 AM.
Three members of the Yankton Lakers have been named Class A All-Tournament team honorees at the South Dakota Amateur Baseball State Tournament.
Selected for Yankton were Will Rauch, Shugo Kondo, and Lucas Kampshoff. Former Mount Marty athlete Jermiah Mauch was also selected for his contributions to state runner-up Renner.
In addition to Yankton, the Freeman Black Sox had two players selected at the Class B level, Bailey Sage and Jackson Fiegen.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer travels to Sioux Falls tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against the Jefferson Cavaliers.
The Bucks will play first at 5:00 PM with the Gazelles to follow. Matches will be held at Sioux Falls Jefferson High School.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball has their first match of the season tomorrow night, hosting the O’Gorman Knights at the Summit Activities Center.
Yankton is looking to improve on a 7-19 record last season, which saw the Gazelles finish one spot short of the postseason, while the Knights finished 3rd at last year’s State Tournament.
First serve is scheduled for 6:30 PM tomorrow night. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:30. Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Mount Marty Men’s Golf is set to host an invitational today and tomorrow to kick off their 2025 season. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
Mount Marty Women’s Soccer travels to Madison, SD, today for a matchup with Dakota State University.
The Lancers are 0-1 to start their season following a 3-0 loss to Benedictine College last Thursday.
Kickoff from Madison is set for 7:00 PM this evening.
Yankton native Steve Weiland placed second in the Master’s Division of the SDGA Men’s Senior Championships, held this past weekend at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.
Weiland finished the weekend at ten-over on the scorecards, two shots back of division champion Bill Carland.
Vermillion’s Adam Chandler claimed the Pre-Senior Division championship, taking a one-stroke victory over Charlie Jacobson. Chandler finished the tournament at four-over.
