City Manager Amy Leon presented the proposed 2026 budget during last night’s City Budget Meeting, highlighting concerns over the city’s primary revenue source, sales tax. She says sales tax is expected to grow at a slower rate than inflation.
Leon says revenue estimates may need to be revised later this year, stressing the importance of considering potential economic development expenditures and quality of life activities when planning the budget. She encourages citizens to shop locally as a means to contribute to local revenue.
Following the presentation, the City Commission determined that no additional budget workshops are needed at this time.
A complete copy of the proposed budget can be viewed on the City of Yankton’s website.
