Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball picked up a doubleheader sweep over Brookings last night, winning 10-0 and 5-3 over the two games.
Sam Gokie made his first appearance of the legion season in game one, finishing 2 for 2 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored. Mark Kathol pitched a complete-game shutout on the mound.
Yankton held on for a 5-3 win in the second game. Evan Serck scored a pair of runs, one of which came on a steal of home in the 6th inning.
Yankton head coach Drew Lawrence said after the game that, despite not needing the run to win, it helped the team mentally heading into the final inning.
Yankton is now 18-8 on the year following the win. Post 12 returns to action tomorrow for a home doubleheader against Rapid City Post 22 at 6:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:15.
The Top three teams in the South Central Amateur Baseball League will be in action tomorrow night, including a matchup between first and third place.
The current top team in the SCL, Yankton, will travel to Wynot tomorrow to face the third-place Expos. Yankton is the lone undefeated team remaining in SCL play with an 8-0 record, while Wynot is 2.5 games behind the Lakers at 6-3. Yankton defeated Wynot when the two teams met on June 8th, 12-6.
The second-place Tabor Bluejays will host the Menno Mad Frogs tomorrow night. Tabor is 1.5 games out of first place with a 6-1 league record, while Menno is 1-6 in SCL games. Tabor won the previous matchup between the two teams, 10-5, on May 29th.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 tomorrow night.
