Yankton Post 12 Legion baseball travels to Watertown this afternoon to take on the Post 17 Arrows.
Yankton is 3 and 1 on the season following their doubleheader sweep of Harrisburg Post 45 Gold on Sunday. Watertown is currently undefeated in the legion season, with sweeps over Aberdeen, Brandon Valley, and Sioux Falls West.
The first pitch of game one from Watertown Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 PM this afternoon, with game two to follow.
Yankton Gazelles Golf sits 8th as a team after the opening day of the Class AA State Meet in Sioux Falls.
The Gazelles shot a 378 as a team. Ellia Homstad currently leads Yankton, as she is tied for 7th individually with an 81. Aberdeen Central currently leads the team competition, with Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun 1st individually with an opening round 71 to finish one-under par.
The second and final day of the competition will take place today at Prairie Green Golf Course. Tee time is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
The Irene Cardinals and Freeman Black Sox split a high-scoring South Central League baseball doubleheader on Sunday.
Freeman won game one 23 to 14 over Irene. Rocky Ammann and Evan Scharberg each had three RBIs for the Black Sox, with Scharberg scoring four runs as well. Cal Lucas and Anthony De La Torre Guglielmana both homered for Irene, with Lucas recording six RBIs.
Irene took game two of the doubleheader 9 to 7. Irene scored eight runs in the third inning to take a lead and never looked back. Marcus Van Driel pitched a complete game for the win on the mound with ten strikeouts.
Crofton defeated Menno on Sunday in South Central League baseball action, 9 to 2 in Menno.
Seth Wiebelhaus led Crofton with four hits and three steals. Tyler Koch finished with two hits of his own, including a home run.
Capp Bengston earned the win on the mound, while Jared Hegdahl was credited with the loss.
The Yankton Lakers improved to 3 and 0 in South Central League play on Sunday with a 10 to 4 win over Tabor at Riverside Field.
Brent Cooley led the Lakers, finishing two for four at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. Lucas Kampshoff added a pair of hits as well for Yankton.
Hudson Waldow picked up the win on the mound, striking out eleven batters over six and two-thirds innings of work.
