Yankton Post 12 opened up their 2025 Legion baseball season with a doubleheader split against Huron.
Yankton claimed game one 11 to 1. Beck Ryken finished 3 for 4 at the plate with a double. Mark Kathol pitched six innings for the win on the mound.
Yankton was held to two hits in game two as Huron picked up a 2 to 0 win. Matthew Sheldon and Trey Sager each recorded a hit for Post 12.
Yankton returns home on Sunday to host Harrisburg. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 PM.
Yankton Gazelles Softball had their 2025 season come to an end in the SoDak 16 last night with a 15 to 0 loss to Sioux Falls Jefferson.
The Gazelles were held to one in the game, with Eliza Gurney recording a single in the third inning.
Yankton ends their season with a 6 and 14 overall record. Sioux Falls Jefferson advances to the Class AA State Tournament and will face Brandon Valley in round one.
Yankton Gazelles Golf finished 5th as a team at yesterday’s ESD Conference Championships in Brandon.
Two Gazelles earned All-Conference honors with top fifteen finishes. Ellia Homstad tied for 3rd in the event with an 81, while Sabrina Krajewski tied for 12th with a 91.
Next up for the Gazelles is the Class AA State Championships, June 2nd and 3rd at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
The Gayville-Volin Raiders qualified for their 3rd straight Class B Softball State Tournament yesterday with a 16 to 4 win over Flandreau.
The Raiders scored 11 of their 16 runs in the 6th inning alone to end the game on a run rule.
The Raiders will face Castlewood in the opening round of the Class B State Tournament. The game will be held on June 5th in Aberdeen.
The Bon Homme Cavaliers enter the Class B State Softball tournament as the #2 overall seed following their 16 to 4 win over Viborg-Hurley yesterday.
Kenadee Kozak led the Cavaliers, finishing with four RBIs, three runs, and a home run at the plate, while striking out six batters and pitching all five innings.
Bon Homme will face Mobridge-Pollock in the opening round on June 5th in Aberdeen.
The Avon Pirates earned their first trip to the Class B Softball State Tournament yesterday with a 12 to 9 win over Chester in the SoDak 16.
Rilyn Thury led the Pirates at the plate, tallying a home run, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Macy Voigt earned the win in the circle, striking out eight batters.
The Pirates will face top-seeded Deuel in the first round of the Class B State Tournament on June 5 in Aberdeen.
The Vermillion Tanagers punched their ticket to their first-ever Class A Softball State Tournament yesterday with a 13 to 0 shutout of Beresford.
Madigan Wallin finished the day with four hits and three RBIs for the Tanagers. Mya Halverson struck out nine batters and allowed only two hits for the win in the circle.
The Tanagers will battle top-seeded West Central in the opening round. First pitch is set for 10:00 AM on June 5th in Aberdeen.
