Mount Marty Junior Zelie Sorensen finished 7th in her heat at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships yesterday, missing the cut for the finals.
Sorensen finished with a time of 25.51 seconds. Sorensen was the lone Lancer to compete yesterday. Competing today for MMU will be Austin Gobel, Carl Massa, Chris Munoz-Sturgeon, Zavio Prato, and Jonathan Van Lien (alternate) in the 1600-meter relay as well as Mya Zohner and Paige Clausen in the women’s pole vault.
The men’s 1600 relay prelims are scheduled to begin at 8:15 PM this evening, with the women’s pole vault set for 5:00. Luke Rettedal is the only Lancer yet to compete in the first two days, with the men’s shot put scheduled for tomorrow at 3:00 PM. All events are held at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.
Yankton Bucks Baseball travels to Sioux Falls tomorrow for the opening day of the Class A High School Club Baseball State Tournament.
The Bucks are the #5 seed in this year’s tournament. They will face the #4 seed Sioux Falls Jefferson in round one.
Yankton and Jefferson met twice this season in a doubleheader on April 8th. The Cavaliers won game one 4 to 1, while the Bucks took game two 1 to 0.
First pitch from Sioux Falls Stadium is set for 2:30 PM tomorrow afternoon. Pregame coverage on KYNT begins at 1:45. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Yankton Gazelles Softball will have a pair of games today in the Sioux Falls area to round out their 2025 regular season.
Yankton will first play Tea Area at noon in a make-up of their game that was rained out earlier this week.
Following their game in Tea, the Gazelles will head to the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls to take on Harrisburg at 5:30.
The Gazelles enter the final day of their regular season 13th in Class AA with a 6 and 11 overall record.
Yankton Bucks Tennis heads to Sioux Falls today for the opening day of the Class AA State Tournament.
Five of Yankton’s six athletes were part of last year’s team that placed fourth in the tournament, the program’s best finish.
Competing for the Bucks in singles play will be Zachary Briggs at flight one, Harrison Krajewski at flight two, Christopher Rockne at flight three, Luke Moeller at flight four, Ethan Marsh at flight five, and Patrick Kralicek at flight six.
In doubles play, Briggs and Krajewski will play at flight one, Rockne and Moeller at flight two, and Marsh and Kralicek at flight three.
Today’s matches will be split between Tomar Park, McKennan Park, and Lincoln High School, with action beginning at 8:00 AM this morning. All matches on Friday will be held at Tomar Park, beginning at 8:00 AM.
Yankton Track and Field has a “Last Chance” meet today, hosted by O’Gorman in Sioux Falls.
The Javelin event will be held at Howard Wood Field beginning at noon. All other events will be held at McEneaney Field at O’Gorman High School. Field events begin at 2:30 with running events scheduled for 4:00.
Yankton Gazelles Golf travels to Brookings today for an invitational at the Brookings Country Club. Tee time is set for 10:00 AM.
Yankton’s Kieran Luellman has been selected as one of thirteen individuals to be inducted into the 2025 class of the South Dakota High School Baseball Association Hall of Fame.
Luellman, who graduated in 2019, earned first-team all-state honors in his junior and senior seasons, recording a 0.00 ERA in the regular season of his junior year.
Luellman is the fourth Yankton alum selected to the SDHSBA Hall of Fame, joining Travis Devine, Mason Vig, and Drew Heithoff
