Mount Marty Baseball went 1-1 on Saturday in their home GPAC doubleheader against Doane.
The Lancers shut out the Tigers in game one, 5-0. Jalen Owens finished 3 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI and 2 runs. Kaden Crawford threw 4 strikeouts over 4 innings for the win on the mound.
Game two ended in a 2-1 loss for the Lancers. Jaycob Pascuzzi drove in Cooper Milnarik for the lone run for MMU.
The Lancers are back home on Friday for the first half of their four-game series with Morningside. Game one begins at 3:00 PM, with game two to follow.
Yankton Bucks Baseball swept the Spearfish Spartans on Saturday in their doubleheader in Chamberlain.
The Bucks outscored the Spartans 16-1 over the two games, winning game one 11-1 and game two 5-0.
Easton Feser tallied 4 hits, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored over the two games. Chase Cooley and Boston Frick each picked up a win on the mound.
The now 6-0 Bucks will be back in action tomorrow night, taking on Sioux Falls Roosevelt at Riverside Field. Game one begins at 5:00 PM with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV starting at 4:15.
Mount Marty Softball swept the Waldorf Warriors on Saturday in a GPAC doubleheader.
The Lancers won game one 9-1. Arin Eaton led the way offensively, going 2 for 2 at the plate with 2 runs scored.
Game two saw MMU claim an 11-6 win after trailing 5-0 in the 3rd inning. Kayleen Jacinto helped lead the comeback, driving in 5 runs, including a grand slam.
Mount Marty travels to Crete, Nebraska, tomorrow for a pair of games against Doane. Game one is set for 1:00 PM.
Mount Marty Track and Field polished off the Sioux City Relays with 5 event victories on Saturday.
Claiming individual wins for the Lancers were Yankton alum Austin Gobel in the men’s 100, Jonathan van Lien in the men’s long jump, and Kellan Odell in the men’s javelin.
The Lancer men also finished with a pair of relay wins, Gobel, van Lien, Drake Nemetz, and Austin Bryant won the sprint medley, and Jet Janvrin, Samuel Favaretto, Bastien Furstoss, and Zavio Prato won the 1600 relay.
The Lancer women were led by a pair of runner-up finishes from Alexus Motley in the javelin and Marissa Bawdon in the long jump. Zelie Sorenen also placed highly, taking 3rd in the long jump.
Mount Marty will send athletes to multiple events this week. The Kansas Relays (Thursday through Saturday) and the Northwestern Red Raider Open (Friday/Saturday).
Yankton Track and Field claimed six event victories on Friday at the Huron Invitational.
For the Bucks, the team of Cale Haselhorst, Joaquin Pulido Cisneros, Alex Swihart, and Jack Brandt placed first in both the 400 and 800-meter relays. Andrew Budig led in the field events, placing 1st in the shot put with a throw of 50-1 1/4.
The Gazelles dominated the “jump” events, as Juliet Remington won the triple jump, Burkley Olson won the long jump, and Quinn Brinkman won the high jump.
Next up for Yankton is a home triangular against Brandon Valley and Mitchell on Tuesday.
Yankton Bucks Tennis was perfect in their triangular on Friday afternoon, earning a pair of 9-0 sweeps over Milbank and Sioux Falls Jefferson.
The Bucks will travel to Sioux Falls on Tuesday for a dual with O’Gorman at McKennan Park.
Yankton Gazelles Softball travels to Sioux Falls tonight to take on O’Gorman. First pitch from Sherman Park is set for 6:00 PM.
