The Mount Marty Lancers swept Buena Vista University yesterday in a softball doubleheader in Storm Lake, Iowa.
The Lancers used a balanced offense to win game one 5-0, with 6 different players recording a hit, and 5 different players scoring runs. Lainey Van Zee earned the win in the circle, striking out 10 batters and allowing only 2 hits over 7 innings.
Game two ended in a 3-1 win for the Lancers. A Kalli Boom RBI triple in the 7th put MMU up 2-1, before Kayleen Jacinto drove Boom in with a double for the 3-1 final. Madison Justesen threw the complete game for the win in the circle.
The Lancers improve to 10-14 with the wins. They will return to GPAC play on Friday as they host Briar Cliff in a doubleheader.
Yankton Track and Field returns to action on Friday for the Mount Marty Indoor Invitational at the Ruth Donahoe First Dakota Fieldhouse.
Yankton opened their track and field season on March 17th. During that event, Quinn Brinkman and Cale Haselhorst set new high school facility records for the Ruth Donahoe First Dakota Fieldhouse. Brinkman in the high jump, clearing 5-5 1/2, and Haselhorst in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.33 seconds.
Events on Friday are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM.
Yankton Bucks Tennis opens their season on Friday with a trilogy of matches at Sioux Park in Rapid City.
The Bucks will face Rapid City Central at noon, Rapid City Stevens at 3:00 PM, and Spearfish at 6:00 PM. All match times are listed in Mountain Time.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Tennis were swept earlier this week in their GPAC matchup with Midland.
The men fell 7-0 while the women lost 6-1. Next up for the Lancers is a road matchup with Doane on March 28th in Crete, Nebraska.
The South Dakota-Nebraska High School Basketball All-Star Game will be held this Sunday at Cimpl Arena in Yankton.
The event will consist of a girls’ game at 2:00 PM and a boys’ game at 4:00. Several area athletes are set to compete. Members of the boys’ teams include Yankton’s Owen Eidsness, Freeman’s Tate Sorensen, and Viborg-Hurley’s Brady Schroedermeier.
The girls’ rosters include Cedar Catholic’s Addison Walter, Crofton’s Jaisie Janssen, and Wynot’s Addison Sharpe.
Mount Marty recruits Anna Binde of Tea Area, Drew Terkildsen of Philip, and Halle Peterson of Rapid City Stevens will also compete in the girls’ game.
