Mount Marty Baseball dropped a close decision last night, falling 1-0 to Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
The Lancers were held to three hits as a team, with Jalen Owens, Kimo Wilinski, and Ethan Synovec recording a hit each.
On the mound, Kaden Harris and Aspen Dahl allowed 5 hits over 9 innings for the Lancers. Harris was tagged with the loss, only giving up 1 run on a solo home run in the 4th inning to Jack Schreck.
The Lancers are back in action today, taking on Grand View at 9:00 AM Central, 10:00 AM Eastern.
Mount Marty Softball improved to 4-5 yesterday with a pair of wins over Carolina and Spring Arbor.
The Lancers defeated Carolina 12-2 in game one, led by a 4 RBI performance from Brooke Richardson. Makayla Graunke picked up the win on the mound, striking out 2 batters over 6 innings.
MMU edged out Spring Arbor in game two, 5-4. Kayleen Jacinto finished the game 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Jacey Hayen was credited with the win, while Madison Justesen earned the save.
The Lancers are back in action today, taking on Mount Vernon Nazarene at 10:00 AM and Huntington at 12:15 PM.
Pine Ridge Senior Marvin Richard III set a new state record for points in a single game last night with 73 in Pine Ridge’s 108-30 win over Lakota Tech in the Region 7A Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
Richard tops the previous record of 72 points, previously set by Del Gillam in 1953. Richard also broke his own Class A record of 62 points.
Richard, a University of South Dakota recruit, becomes the second player in state history to record multiple 60+ point games in a career.
Crofton Warriors Boys Basketball had their season come to an end last night, falling to #2 Bergan Catholic 59-44 in the C2-2 District Final.
The Warriors end their season with an 18-8 overall record, one game shy of an state tournament appearance.
Crofton Warriors Girls Basketball will open state tournament play this afternoon, as they take on #2 Elkhorn Valley in the Class C2 Quarterfinals.
The Warriors enter at 19-7 on the year, earning their tournament spot with a 52-40 win over Elmwood-Murdock in the district finals. The Falcons are undefeated on the year at 26-0.

The Wynot Blue Devils cruised to a 70-49 win over Bancroft-Rosalie last night, earning a spot in the Class D2 Boys Basketball State Tournament.
Devin Brummer and Kotner Koch tied for a game-high 14 points in the win. Koch added 9 rebounds for the Blue Devils.
The Class D2 Boys Basketball State Tournament will begin on March 11th in Lincoln, Nebraska.
South Dakota Coyotes Senior Cameron Fens has been named to the All-Summit League First Team and the league’s All-Defensive team.
Fens tallied 17.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game this season, leading the conference in rebounds and finishing as the only player to average a double-double.
Also honored for USD was Jordan Crawford, earning All-Summit League Second Team honors. Crawford finished 9th in the league in scoring average with 17 points per game.
South Dakota State’s Joe Sayler and Damon Wilkinson were also selected as All-Summit League Honorable Mentions.
Multiple University of South Dakota and South Dakota State Women’s Basketball players have been honored by the Summit League in the conference’s end of season awards.
For the Coyotes, Angelina Robles picked up First-Team All-Conference honors, Molly Joyce was named Newcomer of the Year and was named to both Second-Team All-Conference and the All-Newcomer Team, and Elise Turrubiates earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team and was All-Conference Honorable Mention.
For South Dakota State, Madison Mathiowetz and Brooklyn Meyer were named First Team All-Conference, with Meyer earning a spot on the All-Defense Team. Emilee Fox was an All-Conference Honorable Mention, and Hadley Thul was named to the All-Freshman Team.
