Yankton native Miles Krajewski made history this past weekend, becoming the first American to claim a Para badminton world title at the BWF World Championships in Bahrain.
Krajewski didn’t drop a single game across his four matches in tournament play.
He defeated Brazil’s Vitor Tavares in the round of 16, 21-12, 21-25, and in the Quarterfinals, he won 21-8, 21-12 over Lee Daesung of South Korea.
Krajewski would go on to defeat Krishna Nagar of India 21-18, 21-14 in the semifinals, before claiming the world championship with a 21-19, 22-20 win over Natthapong Meechai of Thailand.
During his run to the title, Krajewski defeated the #2, #3, and #4-ranked players in the world in his class.
The Mount Marty Lancers swept in-state rivals Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday in a GPAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball doubleheader.
The Lancer women took down the #9-ranked Tigers in game one, 75-63. Kaela Martinez led MMU with a game-high 22 points. Alexis Folkers added 17 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
The Lancer men ended the evening with an 88-76 victory. Four different Lancers scored in double figures. Sutton Arend led with 19, followed by 18 from Jake Jensen, 15 from Tyler Sandoval, and 13 from Jackson Edman.
The Lancers are on the road on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Concordia. The women play first at 6:00 PM, with the men to follow.
The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles split their doubleheader with the Rapid City Central Cobblers on Saturday.
The Gazelles fell in game one 50-38. Jordyn Kudera led Yankton with 9 points in the loss.
The Bucks picked up their second straight win in game two, 69-57. Beck Ryken posted a game-high 22 points for Yankton.
The Bucks and Gazelles travel to Sioux Falls tomorrow night to take on Sioux Falls Christian. The girls play first at 6:00 PM, with the boys to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:15 with Brayden Butler.
Yankton Gazelles Gymnastics placed 6th as a team this past weekend at the AA State Championships in Mitchell.
Yankton scored a 137.116 in Friday’s team competition. Avery Portillo led the Gazelles in the individual competition on Saturday, placing 13th overall in the floor exercise and 20th on the beam.
The 6th-place finish is the first top-6 finish in the team competition for the Gazelles since 2022.
Mount Marty Baseball Coach Josh Teichroew (Ty-crow) picked up his 100th career win on Sunday in the Lancers’ sweep of Hesston College.
Teichroew officially hit the century mark after MMU’s 4-2 win in game one. Tyler Vance led the Lancers with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs.
Game two ended 14-4 in favor of the Lancers. Vance starred again with a pair of hits, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored.
Next up for MMU is a three-game series with Valley City State on February 21st and 22nd in Yankton.
Yankton Bucks Hockey went 2-1 over their three games this past weekend to improve to 14-3-1 on the season.
On Friday, the Bucks defeated Brooking 5-1. Kylen O’Connor led with 4 goals, while Jack Pedersen recorded 3 assists.
The Bucks would fall to Aberdeen on Saturday, 3-,2 for their first loss since December 5th.
Yankton bounced back on Sunday with a 7-0 shutout of the Cougars. Kaden Hunhoff led with 3 goals and an assist in the win.
The Bucks are back home on Sunday, February 22nd for their next game against Sioux Falls East.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Bowling wrapped up their regular season last Friday night with a sweep of Sioux Falls Washington.
The Gazelles defeated Washington 40.5-9.5. Avery Turner led the way with a 244 high game and a 652 series. The Gazelles ended the year on a 12-game win streak.
The Bucks capped their regular season with a 44.5-5.5 win. Audric Boese-Rahm led the Bucks with a 267 high game and a 746 series.
Next up for Yankton is the state tournament in Brookings. The girls will compete on February 27th, with the boys’ tournament scheduled for the 28th.
South Dakota State Men’s Basketball got back into the win column on Saturday, defeating Oral Roberts 87-69 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Five different Jackrabbits scored 13 or more points in the win. Kalen Garry led with 18, Damon Wilkinson and Jaden Jackson finished with 15 each, and Joe Sayler and Alec Squires scored 13 each.
SDSU is back in action on Wednesday, as they host North Dakota State in Brookings.
South Dakota State Women’s Basketball picked up their 20th win of the season on Saturday, defeating Kansas City 93-40.
The dominant victory means the Jackrabbits have reached 20 wins for the 15th straight season. Emilee Fox led SDSU with 26 points in the win.
The Jackrabbits will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday to take on Oral Roberts.
