Mount Marty Football fell to 4-4 on Saturday, as they were defeated by Hastings 23-20 on a last-second field goal.
Rugby Ryken led the Lancers through the air and on the ground in the loss, throwing for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns while leading MMU in rushing as well.
Cole Cripps helped lead the defense with 7 tackles, and forced fumble, and an interception for the Lancers.
Mount Marty has their final home game of the regular season on Saturday, as they host in-state rivals Dakota Wesleyan for the Dakota Railroad Rivalry game at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Cross Country both placed 8th at this past weekend’s Class AA State Championships in Huron.
The Gazelles were led by Nora Youmans, who placed 24th as the highest Yankton finisher for either team. Rilyn Jackson took 48th, followed by Abby Johanneson in 49th, Avery Wuestewald in 53rd, and Delaney Youmans in 73rd.
The Bucks were led by Bryton Olson in 32nd and Luke Feimer in 33rd. They were followed by Harrison Krajewski in 27th, Isaac Paulson in 55th, and Ethan Brenden in 73rd to round out the scoring. Also for Yankton, Gabe Rock placed 74th, and Isaac Larrington took 76th.
Sioux Falls Lincoln would take first as a team in the boys’ race, with Harrisburg claiming a team title in the girls’ race.
Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance placed 3rd and 13th at the Class AA State Championships on Saturday in Watertown.
Yankton Dance finished 3rd overall, led by a 2nd place finish in Pom and a 3rd place finish in Jazz. Yankton Cheer scored a 222.5 to finish 13th.
Harrisburg would take home the state title in cheer, while Brandon Valley was 1st in dance.
Mount Marty Women’s Soccer has qualified for the GPAC Tournament for the second time in program history following Sunday’s win over Waldorf.
The Lancers defeated the Warriors 3-0 at Crane-Youngworth Field. Alyssa Rios, Avery Kimball, and Elyse Akimoto all scored for MMU.
The 7-3-3 Lancers wrap up their regular season on Wednesday, as they take on the College of Saint Mary at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Mount Marty Men’s Soccer ended their regular season on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over Waldorf.
The Lancers outshot the Warriors 31-11 over the 90 minutes. Oliver Danzer grabbed a brace with two goals, while Steven Mambo and Arthur Rodriguez scored one goal each.
The Lancers end the regular season with a 3-6-4 overall record and are 8th in the GPAC standings. A tiebreaker will decide if the Lancers earn a spot in the postseason following the end of the GPAC slate later this week.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball won all three matches on Saturday to finish the East/West Tournament at 3-2.
The Gazelles claimed three sweeps on Saturday over Sturgis, Douglas, and Rapid City Central, after not winning a set across two matches on Friday against Rapid City Stevens and Spearfish.
The Gazelles are now 9-14 on the year. They return home tomorrow night to host the Tea Area Titans. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 PM, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:00 on KYNT and KYNTV.
Mount Marty Volleyball fell to the #17-ranked Midland Warriors on Saturday, 3-1, inside Cimpl Arena.
Each set was decided by less than 5 points. Julia Weber led the Lancers with 16 kills, 29 assists, and 11 digs in the loss.
The Lancers are on the road against Hastings on Wednesday in Hastings, Nebraska.
The Cedar Catholic Trojans end their regular season with a perfect 9-0 record after last Friday’s 27-7 win over Norfolk Catholic.
Running back Brady Hochstein led the Trojan offense with 183 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Hochstein also tallied 13 tackles on defense.
The Trojans enter the NSAA C2 Football Playoffs as the #1 overall seed. They will host #16 Hershey on Friday at 5:00 PM in Hartington, Nebraska.
The South Dakota Coyotes lost to the Illinois State Redbirds on Saturday, 21-13, inside the DakotaDome.
Running back L.J. Phillips Jr. eclipsed the century mark again in the loss, rushing for a game-high 129 yards. USD QB Aidan Bouman threw for 173 yards and a touchdown.
The Coyotes are back home again on Saturday, as they host the North Dakota Fighting Hawks.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday, 38-7 at the hands of #1-ranked North Dakota State.
The Bison outgained the Jackrabbits by over 300 yards, as SDSU was held to only 166 yards of total offense.
The Jacks look to get back on track on Saturday, as they host Indiana State at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are bowl eligible for the second straight year, as they improved to 6-2 on Saturday with a 28-21 win over Northwestern.
Husker running back Emmett Johnson powered the Husker offense, rushing for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Former Sioux Falls Jefferson and South Dakota State athlete Griffin Wilde (will-dee) led the Wildcats receiving core with three catches for 54 yards.
