Yankton Bucks Football claimed an ESD Conference Championship last night with a 40-7 win over the Mitchell Kernels.
Cale Haselhorst led the Yankton defense in the win, securing a pair of interceptions, with one returned for a touchdown.
Jace Sedlacek led the Yankton offense with a pair of rushing touchdowns and just under 100 rushing yards.
The Bucks finish the regular season at the #1 seed in Class 11AA with a 7-2 record. They will host #8-seeded Spearfish next Thursday in the opening round of the 11AA playoffs.
Mount Marty Men’s Basketball opened their season last night with a dominant 102-57 win over Kansas Christian.
The Lancers had four players score double digits, led by 17 points from Sutton Arend. Damon Opdahl and Tyler Sandoval both record 14, with Jake Jensen scoring 12.
Black Hills State transfers Jackson Edman and Deegan Williams both impressed in their Lancer debuts. Edman led in rebounds with 8, and Williams had a team high 7 assists.
Next up for the Lancers is Wayland Baptist University in Hilsboro, Kansas, on Halloween.
Mount Marty Women’s Basketball started their new campaign with an impressive win last night, defeating Kansas Christian 107-33.
Former Crofton Warrior Lacey Sprakel led the Lancers with 21 points in the win. Alexus Motley finished just shy of a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
Alexis Folkers tied Motley for the team high with 9 rebounds, while also leading the Lancers with 5 assists.
The Lancers travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, today for an exhibition matchup with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Tip off is set for 8:00 PM.
Mount Marty University had two men’s athletes place top four at yesterday’s MMU Invitational Cross Country meet at Fox Run Golf Course.
Logan Ferrari, a MMU athlete who is competing unattached, finished the race in 24:41.23 to take first place. Joseph Cross was the highest finisher for points for the Lancers, placing 4th.
Rounding out the race for the MMU men, Tague Tvedtwas 61st, Jude Shaughnessy was 84th, Alan Santiago was 88th, and David Phillips was 92nd.
Competing for the Lancer women, Alexis Gosch finished in 27:11.79 to finish 54th.
Next up for the Lancers are the GPAC championships on November 8th in Ashland, Nebraska.
The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats had their season come to an end last night in the opening round of the NSAA D1 Football Playoffs.
The Wildcats fell to Wisner-Pilger 38-28 in round one. Austin Sudbeck recorded four total touchdowns for Hartington-Newcastle, two rushing and two passing.
The Wildcats end their season with a 6-3 record.
The Crofton Warriors advanced to the second round of the NSAA D1 Football Playoffs last night with a 90-20 win over Kimball.
Tyson Jackson and Preston Foxhoven each accounted for three touchdowns in the win. Three rushing scores for Jackson, and two passing and a rushing touchdown for Foxhoven.
Grant Jordan and Cash Culliton also scored multiple times, with each finishing with a pair of rushing touchdowns.
The victory sets Crofton up with a second-round matchup with Johnson-Brock on October 31st.

Yankton Gazelles Volleyball begins play in the East/West Tournament this afternoon, playing five matches over two days in Harrisburg.

Matches will conclude on Saturday as Yankton faces Sturgis, Douglas, and Rapid City Central.
The Cedar Catholic Trojans have their final football game of the regular season tonight, taking on Norfolk Catholic in Norfolk, Nebraska.
The Trojans and Knights both enter their regular season finales with impressive records. Cedar Catholic is undefeated at 8-0, while Norfolk Catholic is 7-1.
