Two Yankton Gazelles Soccer athletes have earned All-State recognition following the conclusion of the 2025 season.
Eden Wolfgram leads the way as a first-team selection. Wolfgran led Yankton in both goals (13) and assists (7) this past season,
Also selected was Iyana Becker as a second-team honoree. Becker tallied 6 goals and 3 assists in her Junior season.
A pair of Yankton Bucks Soccer athletes have been named to the Class AA Boys’ Soccer All-State team.
Jack Pedersen earned second-team recognition after leading the Bucks with 7 goals this past season.
Also honored was Christian Pacheco, who earned honorable mention recognition. Pacheco tallied two goals and five assists in 2025.
Yankton Bucks Football remains 2nd in the Class 11AA Football Media Poll heading into their regular season finale on Thursday.
The Bucks took 2 of 21 first place votes following their 31-7 win over Tea Area last week. Huron remained first with the remaining 19 votes. Pierre, Spearfish, and Tea Area rounded out the top 5.
A pair of other area schools were also recognized, as the Bon Homme Cavaliers received votes in the final 9AA poll of the season and the Avon Pirates end the regular season 2nd in class 9B.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball picked up their second straight win last night, defeating Beresford 3-0 in an interclass matchup.
Two of the three sets were decided by just two points, as the Gazelles won 25-17, 26-24, and 25-23.
Yankton improves to 6-12 with the win. Yankton will play five games over two days this weekend in Harrisburg as part of the East/West Tournament. Yankton will play Spearfish and RC Stevens on Friday, and Douglas, Sturgis, and RC Central on Saturday.
University of South Dakota Kicker Zeke Mata has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Mata set a new school record on Saturday with a 58 yard field goal in USD’s 17-14 win over UNI. The kick tied Mata for the second longest ever in conference history, one yard short of the record.
Mata is the 4th USD athletes to earn a weekly award from the MVFC this season, joining Will Leyland, L.J. Phillips Jr, and Brock Woolf.
Mount Marty Volleyball travels to Seward, Nebraska, tomorrow night to take on the Concordia Bulldogs.
The Lancers enter the match with a 10-12 overall record, and are 3-8 in GPAC play. Concordia enters at 18-2 overall, 11-1 in conference play.
First serve is scheduled for 7:30 PM tomorrow night.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer travels to Hastings, Nebraska, tomorrow night for a GPAC doubleheader against the Hastings Broncos.
Both Lancer teams are looking to bounce back from losses to Briar Cliff this past weekend, as the men fell 5-0 and the women lost 2-0.
The women play first at 3:30 PM, with the men to follow.
Longtime NCAA Basketball Official Kelly Pfeifer will be the featured guest speaker at tomorrow’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting at the River Rock Event Center.
Pfeifer has worked across the country during his career as a referee, including in the NCAA Tournament.
A meal will be available to purchase beginning at 11:15 AM, with the meeting scheduled to begin at noon. The public is invited to attend.
