Yankton Bucks Football improved to 6-2 last Friday night, defeating the Tea Area Titans on Senior Night, 31-7.
Yankton’s Defense was stout all night, forcing six turnovers. Tegan LaCroix recorded three interceptions, with Easton Feser scooping a fumble and scoring for the Bucks.
A Jake Bivens strip and recovery and a Carter Boomsma interception rounded out the Yankton takeaways.
Offensively, Tate Beste threw for 290 yards and 2 touchdowns. Boomsma caught the first of Beste’s touchdowns for a 72-yard score in the 1st quarter.
Yankton concludes their regular season this Thursday with a road matchup against the Mitchell Kernels.
Mount Marty Football fell to 4-3 on Saturday with a 33-13 road loss to the #10-ranked Dordt Defenders in Sioux Center.
Quarterback Rugby Ryken led the Lancers in passing and rushing in the loss, throwing two touchdowns. The Defenders’ defense was able to force three interceptions from Ryken.
Delonte Dickey led the Lancer defense on the day, recording 8 total tackles, including a sack and a TFL.
The Lancers return home this Saturday to host Hastings for their Lancer Days game at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s soccer were swept by the Briar Cliff Chargers on Saturday in their GPAC doubleheader.
The Lancer Men were shut out in their matchup 5-0. The Lancers recorded 7 saves in net.
The Lancer Women were also shut out by the Chargers, 2-0. Brooklyn McNac recorded 8 saves in the loss.
The Lancers travel to Hastings, Nebraska, on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Hastings. The women play first at 3:30 PM, with the men to follow.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball returns to the hardwood tonight, taking on the Beresford Watchdogs in Beresford.
The Gazelles are currently 15th in Class AA with a 5-12 record following a 3-1 win over Pierre last week.
First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM this evening.
The South Dakota Coyotes picked up a hard-fought road win over UNI on Saturday, 17-14 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Coyote Quarterback Aidan Bouman threw for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win. Nate Ewell led the USD defense with 13 tackles, 1 for loss.
The Coyotes improve to 5-3 with the win, 3-1 in Missouri Valley Football Conference Play. They will return home this Saturday to host #9-ranked Illinois State inside the DakotaDome.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits remained perfect on Saturday, defeating the Murray State Racers 35-14.
Redshirt Freshman Quarterback Luke Marble stepped in after starter Chase Mason suffered an injury on the opening drive for SDSU. Marble threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
The 7-0 Jackrabbits are ranked #2 in the country in the latest FCS poll. They will host the top-ranked North Dakota State Bison in their next game on Saturday.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers suffered their second loss of the season on Friday, 24-6, at the hands of the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Quarterback Dylan Raiola completed 17 of his 25 passes for 177 yards in the loss. The Gopher defense was able to sack the Huskers’ QB 9 times.
Darius Taylor powered the Minnesota offense, rushing for 148 yards and a touchdown in the win.
The Huskers return home next Saturday to host the Northwestern Wildcats at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11:00 AM.
Following last week’s slate of games, several area high school football teams have earned a spot in the postseason of their respective classes.
In South Dakota, Bon Homme (6th) and Scotland-Menno (12th) earned spots in 9AA, Avon is the #2 seed in Class 9B, and Irene-Wakonda earned the final qualifying spot in 9B.
In Nebraska, Crofton (5th), Bloomfield (17th), and Hartington-Newcastle (19th) all earned spots in Class D1, with Wynot earning the 6th seed in Class D2.
