Yankton Bucks Football has jumped from 4th to 2nd in the latest Class 11AA Football Media Poll, coming off a 14-7 win over Brookings.
Yankton received two first-place votes this week, with top-ranked Huron receiving the remaining 23.
Rounding out the top 5, Pierre moved from 5th to 3rd, Spearfish enters the top 5 in 4th, and Tea Area falls from 2nd to 5th.
Sturgis falls out of the top 5 but continues to receive votes. Also receiving votes this week were Watertown and Brookings.
Mount Marty’s Daniel Pierce has been recognized by the Great Plains Athletic Conference as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Pierce recorded an 80-yard punt return touchdown this past Saturday, as the Lancers defeated Doane 31-14.
Pierce and the Lancers travel to Sioux Center, Iowa, on Saturday for their next game against Dordt.
South Dakota Coyotes’ Kicker Will Leyland has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Player of the Week.
Leyland was a perfect 4 for 4 on field goals this past Saturday, helping the Coyotes secure a 19-14 win over Indiana State. Saturday’s performance was the 6th time in school history a kicker made 4 field goals in a single game.
Leyland is the third Coyote to earn weekly honors from the MVFC this season, joining L.J. Phillips Jr. and Brock Woolf.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Golf wrap up the Battle at the Dance Collegiate Golf Tournament today in Windsor, Colorado.
The Lancer men shot a 306 in yesterday’s opening round, sitting 4th as a team after day one. Wout Kerkhofs leads the Lancers, as he’s tied for 4th individually.
The Lancer women ended round one tied for 6th as a unit. Abigail Greenhoff shot a 169 over two rounds to lead the Lancers.
The tournament concludes today.
Mount Marty Volleyball travels to Orange City, Iowa, tomorrow night for a GPAC matchup with the Northwestern Red Raiders.
The Lancers are 10-11 on the year, 3-7 in GPAC play, coming off a 3-0 sweep over Briar Cliff this past weekend. The Red Raiders enter tomorrow’s match as the #1 team in the GPAC, and the #7 team in the country, with a perfect 10-0 record in conference play.
First serve is scheduled for 7:30 PM tomorrow night.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer hosts the Doane Tigers tomorrow night in a GPAC doubleheader at Crane-Youngworth Field.
The Lancer men are 2-5-2 on the year, and are looking for their first GPAC win of the season with a 0-4-2 conference record.
The Lancer women are in the midst of their most successful season in program history so far, with a 6-4-2 overall record, 3-1-2 in GPAC play.
The men are scheduled to play first at 5:00 PM tomorrow evening, with the women to follow.
Wayne State Head Football Coach Logan Masters will be the featured guest speaker at tomorrow’s Yankton Quarterback Club Meeting at the River Rock Event Center.
Masters is in his 4th season as the Head Coach of the Wildcats. He holds a 20-10 overall record at the helm, and is 3-4 so far this season.
A meal will be available for purchase beginning at 11:15 AM, with the program scheduled to begin at noon. The public is invited to attend.
The Avon Pirates have claimed the top spot in the latest Class 9B Football media poll, receiving 17 of 25 first-place votes.
The Pirates claimed a dominant 68-14 win over Scotland-Menno last week to move into 1st, after former #1 Sully Buttes fell to Herreid/Selby Area 22-20.
