Yankton Gazelles Soccer advanced to the second round of the Class AA Playoffs last night with a 3-1 win over Rapid City Central.
Eden Wolfgram, Josslyn Elwood, and Auvianna Seiler all scored for the Gazelles, with Iyana Becker picking up a pair of assists.
The Gazelles will travel to #2-seeded Harrisburg in the second round on Saturday.
Yankton Bucks Soccer had their season come to an end last night, as they fell to O’Gorman 4-1 in the first round of the Class AA Playoffs.
Nels Hanson scored early to put the Bucks up 1-0, but 4 unanswered goals from the Knights ended Yankton’s season.
The Bucks end the year with an 8-6-1 record.
Yankton Bucks Golfer Kai Cody tied for 9th at the Class AA State Tournament, helping lead the Bucks to a 6th place finish as a team.
Cody finished the two-day event at 7-over, shooting 151 for the tournament. Yankton shot 623 as a team, 7 strokes back of 5th place.
Rounding out the Bucks’ scoring, Elijah Larson tied for 23rd, Easton Schelhaas tied for 43rd, Easton Vellek tied for 49th, Brayden Byrkeland tied for 54th, and Gus Sprakel tied for 66th.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Golf finished 11th and tied for 6th, respectively at the Mustang Derby in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Lancer men shot 658 over the two-day event to place 11th. Guus Van Loon tied for 35th to lead the Lancers, followed by Wout Kerkhofs, who tied for 44th.
The Lancer women shot 710 as a unit to tie with Dordt in the team standings at 6th. Abigail Greenhoff led the team, tying for 18th. Trinity Palmquist followed in 25th.
Both Lancer teams travel to Windsor, Colorado, on October 13th and 14th for the Battle at the Dance, held at Raindance National Golf Course.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis begins their quest for hardware at the state tournament tomorrow in Sioux Falls.
The Gazelles are coming off a 3rd place finish at the ESD Conference meet last week, led by singles titles and a doubles championship from Nora and Sabrina Krajewski.
Matches are scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball returns to action tomorrow night, taking on the Brandon Valley Lynx in Brandon.
The Gazelles are 4-11 on the year, playing their first match since last Thursday’s loss to Sioux Falls Christian.
First serve from Brandon Valley High School is set for 6:30 PM tomorrow night.
Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance travels to Watertown tomorrow for a varsity invitational. Events are set to begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday.
South Dakota Coyotes Head Volleyball Coach LeAnne Williamson will be the featured guest speaker at today’s Yankton Quarterback Club Meeting.
Williamson is in her 12th year at the helm for the Coyotes. She has amassed five conference championships, five NCAA Tournament appearances, and a 240-107 record. Williamson has also been named Summit League Coach of the Year three times.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at noon at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton. A meal will be available to purchase beginning at 11:15 AM. The public is invited to attend.
