The man facing a murder charge in a beheading that occurred in Yankton around New Year’s Day this year will go to trial in 2026.
Craig Nichols Jr., 32, is accused of killing his girlfriend, Heather Ann Bodden, after she was found beheaded at her apartment.
In addition to setting a trial date for next summer, the state will not pursue the death penalty, now making the maximum penalty life in prison.
Nichols’s trial is set to begin June 15th of next year.
