Nora Krajewski is the new all-time leader in singles wins for Yankton Girls’ Tennis, as the Gazelles swept their triangular yesterday in Sioux Falls.
Krajewski won both singles matches, achieving 149 wins in her career. Yankton defeated O’Gorman 6-3 and Brandon Valley 5-4.
Yankton will travel to Mitchell on Friday for matches against Sioux Falls Jefferson and Spearfish.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles soccer had mixed results last night, picking up a win and a draw in their doubleheader with Brookings.
The Bucks improved to 3-3-1 on the season, as they defeated the Bobcats 4-2 in game one. Nolan Pacheco, Jack Pedersen, Tony Guitron and Gibson Brooks all scored in the win, with Pedersen, Kevin Ortiz, and Christian Pacheco picking up assists.
Game two saw a 1-1 draw between the Gazelles and Brookings. Eden Wolfgram scored early to put the Gazelles up, assisted by Josslyn Elwood. Elaina Mohnen recorded five saves in net.
The Bucks and Gazelles travel to Sioux Falls tomorrow for a doubleheader against O’Gorman. The Bucks play first at 6:00 with the Gazelles to follow.
Yankton Bucks Football is ranked 1st in the latest Class 11-AA Coaches Poll and 2nd in the Media Poll following their week one victory over the Huron Tigers.
Yankton earned 4 first-place votes from coaches and 2 from the media this week. They swap places with the Pierre Governors, who are 1st in the media poll and 2nd in the coaches poll entering week 2.
Also represented in the polls were the Avon Pirates, who are 2nd in Class 9-B in both the coaches and media polls.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball were swept by the defending state champion Harrisburg Tigers last night, 3-0, inside the Summit Activities Center.
The three-set match finished 25-11, 25-8, and 25-8 in favor of the Tigers. Burkley Olson led the team with 3 aces, 3 kills, and 8 digs. Alaina Nelson recorded 6 assists.
The Gazelles have the rest of the week off, as they prepare for Sioux Falls Washington on Monday, September 8th.
The Yankton Bucks Golf team defeated the Mitchell Kernels yesterday in the annual Marchand Cup.
The Ryder Cup-style competition saw Yankton win 14.5-9.5, defeating Mitchell in all three disciplines. Yankton won four ball 4-2, scramble 3.5-2.5, and took a 7-5 decision in singles play.
Next up for the Bucks is a quadrangular on Friday in Brandon. Tee time is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance has an invitational tomorrow at Mitchell High School. Events are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.
Mount Marty Men’s Golf travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, today for day one of the Blue River Classic. Tee time at Highlands Golf Course is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
Mount Marty Head Football Coach John Michaletti will speak at today’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton.
The Lancers are 1-0 to start their 2025 season, and open GPAC play this weekend against Waldorf.

The Gayville-Volin Raiders are receiving votes in the latest Class B High School Volleyball media poll.
The Raiders are 2-0 to start their season, both matches ending as 3-0 sweeps. The Raiders defeated Sioux Falls Lutheran on August 28th and Canistota last night.
Chester Area are ranked 1st in the class, followed by Warner, Northwestern, Hitchcock-Tulare, and Burke in that order.
