Yankton Gazelles Volleyball has their first match of the season tonight, hosting the O’Gorman Knights at the Summit Activities Center.
Yankton is looking to improve on a 7-19 record last season, which saw the Gazelles finish one spot short of the postseason, while the Knights finished 3rd at last year’s State Tournament.
First serve is scheduled for 6:30 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:30. Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer returns to action this afternoon in a road doubleheader against Sioux Falls Jefferson.
The boys’ game will take place first at 5:00 PM. The Bucks enter the contest with a 1-2-1 overall record, picking up a 2-2 draw against Pierre in their last match. The Cavaliers are 2-0 to start their season, with wins over Aberdeen Central and Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
The girls’ game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM kickoff. The Gazelles are 2-1-1 early in the season, and are looking to bounce back after a 2-0 loss to Pierre in their last game. Jefferson is looking for their first win of the season after a 0-2 start.
The Avon Pirates are second in the latest Class 9B Football media poll, following their 38-0 shutout of Colman-Egan in week one.
Avon trails only Sully Buttes in the poll as the Pirates earned 4 of 20 first-place votes. Sully Buttes picked up 15 votes, with the final vote going to Faulkton Area.
The latest polls only represent Classes 11-B through 9-B, as Classes 11-AAA, 11-AA, and 11-A start their seasons this week. The Yankton Bucks were initially ranked 2nd in the Class 11-AA preseason poll.
The Gayville-Volin Raiders are receiving votes in the initial Class B Volleyball media poll, as they look to improve on last year’s State Tournament appearance.
The Raiders finished 2024 with a 30-6 overall record, placing 7th at the state tournament. Gayville-Volin was one of four teams outside of the top five to receive votes. Full Polls for all classes are available below.

The Mount Marty Lancers are 10th and 12th between their two squads after day one of their men’s golf invitational at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club in Yankton.
The Lancers ‘B’ squad is currently 10th after a 318 as a team on day one. They are two strokes ahead of the MMU ‘A’ squad in 12th.
Max Glasheen shot the lowest for the Lancers on day one with a 72, two strokes off the leader. He’s followed closely by Wout Kerkhofs (73) and Lane Tvedt (74).
The Tournament concludes today in Yankton.
Yankton Bucks Golf is in the state capital today for an invitational at Pierre Hillsview Golf Course.
The Bucks are looking to build off of a third-place finish at their last competition, where they shot a 304 as a team.
Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM this morning.
Mount Marty Women’s Soccer rolled to their first win of the season last night, defeating Dakota State 6-0 in Madison.
The Lancers record nine shots on goal as a team. Rhyli Grim picked up a hat trick with three of MMU’s goals, while Alexia Valdez, Alyssa Rios, and Mika Moriera rounded out the scoring with a goal each. Brooklyn McNac held a shutout in net, saving five shots.
The Lancers have their first home game of the year on Saturday, hosting York University at Crane-Youngworth Field. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon.
