Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer kicks off their 2025 campaign tonight with a pair of home games against Rapid City Stevens.
The Gazelles are coming off an 8-5-2 season in 2024 that saw them finish in the top half of all teams in Class AA. The Gazelles enter the season tied for 5th in the initial Girls AA Coaches poll.
The Bucks finished 2-11-1 last year and are looking to bounce back after missing the postseason.
The Gazelles play first at 5:00 PM with the Bucks to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 4:00. Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis begins their season this afternoon with a triangular in Pierre.
The Gazelles placed 2nd in the ESD and 3rd in the state last season, led by a flight one singles title for Nora Krajewski, and a flight one doubles championship for Nora and her sister Sabrina.
Yankton will take on Pierre at 1:00 PM at Griffin Park, before facing Rapid City Central at 4:00 PM at Labarge Park.
The Yankton Lakers will take on the Tea Steam today in their third game of the Class A Amateur Baseball State Tournament.
Yankton fell to Brookings in their first game of the tournament, 8-6, before bouncing back with a 19-1 win over the Black Hills A’s in game two.
First pitch from Valley Springs is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
The Freeman Black Sox were eliminated from the Class B Amateur Baseball State Tournament on Wednesday with a 15-10 loss to Dell Rapids in ten innings.
Three different players tied for a team high three hits for Freeman, Jake Weier, Avery Mellman, and Jackson Fiegen.
Freeman finished 4th in the South Central League this season with a 7-7 record, and were rep #2 for District 6B.
The Great Plains Athletic Conference Preseason Soccer Polls have been released, with the Mount Marty Men picked 10th, and the women 11th.
The Lancer men enter their first season under new head coach Sheldon Spelman, as they open the year on August 20th against Central Community College.
The Lancer women also have a new head coach, as Joe Chicks’ first game in charge will be against Benedictine (Kansas) on August 21st.
Morningside was picked as the favorite on the men’s side, with Hastings claiming the top spot in the women’s poll. Full polls are available below.
