The American Legion Baseball Central Plains Regional Tournament begins today in Fargo, North Dakota, and for the first time in program history, Yankton Post 12 is one of two South Dakota representatives in this year’s tournament.
Yankton finished 2nd at the South Dakota State Tournament this past week, with their only losses coming against the state champions, Harrisburg Post 45.
Eight teams from South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota are competing in this year’s event, with the winner advancing to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina.
Yankton and Harrisburg represent South Dakota, Elkhorn and Lincoln represent Nebraska, Fargo and West Fargo represent North Dakota, and Shakopee and Grand Rapids represent Minnesota.
Yankton will face the hosts, Fargo Post 400, in their first game at 7:00 PM tomorrow night. Games will be held at Starion Bank Field in Fargo. A full schedule for day one is available below.
Central Plains Regional Tournament Schedule (Day One – 8/6/25):
- G1: Harrisburg vs Lincoln @ 9:30 AM.
- G2: Elkhorn vs Shakopee @ noon.
- G3: Grand Rapids vs West Fargo @ 3:30 PM.
- G4: Yankton vs Fargo @ 7:00 PM.
The Class B Amateur Baseball State Tournament begins today in Brandon, with two games on the schedule.
Parkston and Flandreau will open the tournament at 5:30 PM this evening, while Lake Norden will face Alexandria in the nightcap at 7:30.
Four South Central league teams will play in this year’s tournament, beginning with Wynot and Crofton on Friday. On Friday, Wynot will play Milbank at 11:00 AM, Crofton will play Castlewood at 7:30 PM.
Tabor will face Wessington Springs at 7:30 PM Saturday, and Freeman will play Burke at 11:00 AM on Sunday to round out the opening games for SCL teams.
Tyndall, South Dakota, native Mike Mudder has received the Central Region honoree for the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) Excellence in Officiating Award.
Mudder has spent over three decades as an official, refereeing 13 NCAA Division II Playoff games, including the National Championship in 2006.
The award aims to recognize outstanding referees across NCAA Division II. It is presented to one male and one female official who officiate in the NCAA Division II Championship Regions.
The University of South Dakota has announced record-breaking numbers for the “Yote Fund” during the 2024-25 academic year.
The University brought in nearly 14.5 million dollars to the athletic department, seeing an over 400% increase in total cash and pledges.
The Howling Pack also saw a record year between direct donations and its annual events. The Howling Pack fund brought in over $1 million in direct donations and another $1.1 million between the Sanford Coyote Golf Tour and the Calling All Coyotes auction, presented by CorTrust Bank.
