Yankton Post 12 are the 2025 American Legion Baseball Class A Runner-Ups, following their loss to Harrisburg Post 45 on Saturday, 2-0.
Tate Beste led Yankton at the plate, recording two of the team’s five hits. Boston Frick allowed two runs and struck out three batters over 3 and 2/3rds innings.
Yankton’s season will continue, as they qualified for the Central Plains Region Tournament in Fargo, North Dakota.
Yankton will face Fargo Post 400 in their first game at 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening. Games will be held at Station Bank Field in Fargo.
The Yankton Lakers went 2-0 on Saturday to secure the 2nd South District bid into the 2025 Class A Amateur Baseball State Tournament.
Yankton began the day with a 9-1 win over the Mitchell Aces. Will Rauch had three hits for the Lakers, while Kieran Luellman pitched the complete game on the mound.
In game two of the day, Yankton avenged their Friday loss to the Sioux Falls Brewers with a 2-1 win in ten innings. Lucas Kampshoff hit the game-winning single for the Lakers.
The Class A State Tournament begins in Aberdeen on August 8th through the 10th, before concluding in Brandon and Valley Springs August 15th through the 17th.
First round matchups for the Class A State Tournament have been announced, with Yankton scheduled to play Brookings on Friday at 5:30 PM in Aberdeen.
The Tabor Bluebirds are the 2025 District 6B Amateur Baseball Champions, following their 17-7 win over Wynot on Saturday.
Riley Rothshadl was named tournament MVP after the game. He led Tabor in the championship with a pair of hits and RBIs, as well as a home run and three runs scored.
Four District 6B teams have qualified for the Class B State Tournament, district champions Tabor, runner-up Wynot, Freeman, and Crofton.
First round pairings for the Class B State Tournament have been announced. Wynot will play Milbank on Friday at 11:00 AM, Crofton will play Castlewood at 7:30 PM Friday night, Tabor will face Wessington Springs at 7:30 PM Saturday, and Freeman will play Burke at 11:00 AM on Sunday.
The 2025 Hillcrest Pro-Am wrapped up yesterday with Charlie Crockett and Mason Strahl as this year’s winners.
Crockett won the pro event, finishing at 16-under for the weekend, one stroke ahead of 2nd place George Kneiser.
Strahl won the amateur event this year, holding off last year’s champion Eric Baily by two strokes.
Hartington has been eliminated from the Nebraska State Class C American Legion Baseball Tournament, following yesterday’s 13-5 loss to Pender.
Koby Detlefsen led Hartington in the loss, finishing with a pair of hits, including a home run. Trevor Trimble was credited with the win for Pender.
Hartington finishes their 2025 campaign with a 17-10 overall record and an Area C-1 Tournament Championship.
Former South Dakota Coyote and Cedar Catholic graduate Sara Reifenrath competed in the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, last Friday.
Reifenrath placed 19th in the prelims of the women’s 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 53.20 seconds.
During her collegiate career, Reifenrath captured 23 Summit League Championships and holds nine school records for USD.
Also competing at the event, USD Track and Field Assistant Coach Maggie Ewen placed 2nd in the women’s shot put, with a throw of 19.94 meters.
The Yankton School District has announced two new athletics coaches heading into the 2025-26 school year.
Mitchell Gullikson will be the new head cross-country coach, having previously served as the head coach at Sioux City West High School.
Jason Yaggie will now serve as the head girls’ wrestling coach. Yaggie has coached youth wrestling since 2015, and he wrestled for four years during his time at YHS.
