The South Dakota Class A Senior Legion Baseball State Tournament begins tomorrow in Watertown, and Yankton Post 12 enters as the #2 overall seed.
Yankton finished the regular season with a 14-5 record against Class A opponents before sweeping Sturgis in their first-round playoff matchup, winning 5-1 and 12-0.
Rapid City Post 22 enters as the top overall seed in this year’s tournament, while #11 Rapid City Post 320 was the only road team to win a first-round playoff series, defeating #6 Sioux Falls Post 15 East.
Yankton will play Harrisburg Post 45 in their opening game tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM. Coverage will be available on KYNT.

Class A Legion State Tournament (Day One – 7/29)
- Rapid City Post 22 vs Rapid City Post 320 @ 10:00 AM.
- Yankton Post 12 vs Harrisburg Post 45 @ 1:00 PM.
- Brandon Valley vs Renner @ 4:00 PM.
- Watertown vs Pierre @ 7:00 PM.
The Yankton Black Sox are the 2025 South Dakota Class A 16u Baseball State Champions, defeating Mitchell yesterday in the championship 4-3.
The game would go to extra innings, with the winning run coming on a Will Sager single in the 11th inning. Whitaker Hanson was credited with the win, striking out three batters over four innings of relief.
The Yankton Swim Team placed 7th overall and 1st in high point average at the South Dakota State Meet.
Yankton 313 points across 89 individual entries, earning them 3.52 points per entry to take home the high point average award. 2nd place for the award went to the Sioux Falls Swim team, who averaged 3.48 points per entry.
Yankton also had five swimmers qualify for the Zones Championship next weekend in Rochester, Minnesota. Jada Wright, Seth Jacobson, John Jacobson, Laura Villanueva, and Teddy Marlette.
The Menno Mad Frogs have been eliminated from the District 6B Amateur Baseball tournament, following their 13-8 loss to Crofton last night.
Menno is the first team eliminated from the District tournament. Crofton advances to a matchup on Thursday with the loser of tomorrow’s matchup between #1 Tabor vs #4 Lesterville at 6:00 PM.
Also on the schedule for tomorrow is #6 Irene vs #2 Wynot at 8:00 PM. Both games will be held in Wynot, Nebraska.

Hartington Post 4 has advanced to the Area C-1 Tournament finals after defeating Ponca 11-3 yesterday.
Grady Haberer was perfect at the plate, finishing 3 for 3 with a double. Dylan Taylor drove in five of Hartington’s runs, while scoring three more of his own. Miccah Cattau pitched the complete game on the mound, striking out seven batters.
Hartington will play in the Area C-1 finals on Tuesday, taking on either Tri-County or Ponca, depending on the results of their game today.
