Yankton Post 12 is one win away from the South Dakota Legion Baseball Class A State Tournament after yesterday’s 5-1 win over Sturgis in the opening game of their best-of-three series.
After the game, head coach Drew Lawrence was happy with the result, despite the heat and humidity.
Matthew Sheldon recorded three hits and an RBI in the win. Gavin Johnson and Beck Ryken added a pair of hits each. Mark Kathol pitched the complete game on the mound, allowing two hits and striking out seven batters.
Yankton returns to action today, concluding their series against Sturgis. First pitch of game two is set for 11:00 AM this morning, with game three, if necessary, to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 10:15 with Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler on the call.
The Yankton Boys’ Golf Team will hold a preseason registration meeting today from 1:00 to 2:00 in room 235 of Yankton High School.
Boys entering grades 7-12 are eligible to attend. Those who can’t attend in person are asked to contact head coach Brett Sime at brett.sime@k12.sd.us.
The 2025 Bucks Golf season is scheduled to begin on August 18th with an invitational at Spearfish Canyon Golf Course.
The Yankton Bucks Soccer team is hosting a car wash on Saturday to raise funds for the upcoming season.
The car wash will take place at TMA, located at 401 West 23rd Street in Yankton, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Free will donations are encouraged.
The District 6B Amateur Baseball tournament begins today in Wynot, with the Tabor Bluebirds earning the #1 seed.
Tabor finished the regular season 2nd in the South Central League with an 11-3 league record. Finishing only behind Yankton, who went undefeated.
Tabor will play their first game on July 29th. They will face the winner of tomorrow night’s matchup between #4 Lesterville and #5 Crofton.
The top four teams at the end of the tournament will represent District 6B in the Class B State Tournament in Brandon, August 6th through the 17th.

- G7: High-Seed loser vs G6 Loser (Winner is Rep #2 or #3, loser is eliminated).
- G8: G4 Winner vs G5 Loser (Winner is Rep #2 or #3, loser is eliminated).
Saturday, August 2nd:
- G9: G5 Winner vs G6 Winner (Winner is District Champ; Loser is Rep #1)
