Mount Marty Athletic Director Andy Bernatow has been named the 2024-25 Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference AD of the year.
Since becoming Athletic Director in 2021, Bernatow has led a variety of projects to better the experience of MMU Student Athletes, including a new hitting room for baseball, softball and golf, a new athletics meeting room, installation of a camera system at the Ruth Donohoe Fieldhouse, replacement of the hardwood and the installation of a new video board at Cimpl Arena, and more.
Bernatow also serves as the Chair of the GPAC Conduct and Ethics Committee and is the liaison for baseball for the conference.
Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball ends their regular season tonight, with a road doubleheader against the Renner Royals.
Yankton enters the doubleheader 3rd in the Class A standings. Renner, who were last year’s Legion State Champions, are 4th.
Yankton is in line to host a first-round playoff matchup. If the standings remain the same after tonight’s games, they will host Sturgis.
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM this evening, with game two to follow.
The South Central Amateur Baseball League wraps up their regular season tonight with three games.
Wynot will travel to Menno, while Freeman will host the #1 team in the league, Yankton. Crofton will face Tabor in a battle between the Blue Jays and the Bluebirds.
All games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM. Current league standings are available below.

The Yankton Boys’ Golf Team will hold a preseason registration meeting next Thursday, July 24th, in room 235 of Yankton High School.
Boys entering grades 7-12 are eligible to attend. Those who can’t attend in person are asked to contact head coach Brett Sime at brett.sime@k12.sd.us.
The 2025 Bucks Golf season is scheduled to begin on August 18th with an invitational at Spearfish Canyon Golf Course.
Vermillion Tanagers Tennis Coach Kari Jensen has been named Tennis Coach of the Year by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association.
In girls’ tennis, Vermillion placed 3rd as a team at the Class A state tournament, earning multiple podium finishes and a flight six singles state championship for Katie Yoon. Yoon was also a state champion in flight three doubles alongside Sakarra White-Davis. In boys’ tennis, Vermillion finished 10th at the Class A State Tournament. Scoring 118.5 points as a team.
Three other area coaches were finalists in their sports. Avon’s Paul Kuhlman and Gaville-Volin’s Jason Selchert were both finalists for Softball Coach of the Year, with Vermillion’s Kirk Hogen named as a finalist for Boys’ Golf.
