The South Central Amateur Baseball League returns to action tonight with three games on the schedule, including a matchup of the top two teams in the league standings.
The Yankton Lakers will travel to Tabor for a 1st vs 2nd matchup with the Tabor Bluebirds. Yankton is undefeated in league play this season, including a 10-4 win over the Bluebirds on June 1st. Tabor is 8-2 in league play, with their only other loss coming to Freeman this past weekend.
Freeman, fresh off their win over Tabor on Sunday, will host Menno tonight. The two teams just squared off this past Saturday, with Freeman taking a 17-7 win over the Mad Frogs.
Lesterville will host Wynot in the third game of the day. Wynot is currently 3rd in the SCL, with Lesterville in 5th. Wynot came out on top when the two teams met on May 29th, 14-4. Lesterville is coming off a loss last night in a non-league game, as they dropped a close game to Parkston 5-4.
All games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM tonight.
Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball travels to Minnesota tomorrow for the start of the 2025 Gopher Classic.
Yankton will compete in the Waconia Pool from July 11th through the 13th. Also in Yankton’s pool will be St Michael Golds (Minnesota), Creighton Prep (Nebraska), Eastview (Minnesota), New Prague (Minnesota), and Waconia (Minnesota).
Ninety-six teams from Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Illinois, and Manitoba, Canada, will compete in this year’s classic. Pool play runs from the 11th through the 13th, with bracket play beginning on the 14th with the round of sixteen and quarterfinals.
Yankton alum and former Nebraska Cornhusker Tom Welter has been announced as a member of the 2025 Nebraska Football Hall of Fame class.
Welter was an offensive tackle for the Huskers in the mid-80s, earning third-team All-American and All-Big Eight honors in 1986, helping the Husker finish 2nd nationally in rushing and scoring offense.
Also inducted this year will be Derek Brown, Dahrran Diedrick, Brett Maher (Ma-her), Kenny Bell, Bob Nelson, and UNO’s Tom Sutko as a state college representative.
The 2025 Nebraska Football Hall of Fame class will be officially inducted at a ceremony on Friday, Sept. 12. The group will be recognized the following day at Memorial Stadium when Nebraska faces Houston Christian.
