Yankton Post 12 Legion baseball was swept by Rapid City Post 22 last night, with both games going to extra innings.
Yankton fell behind early in game one, trailing 6-0 at one point. Post 12 would battle back and force extra innings with a two-run base hit from Trey Sager in the bottom of the 7th.
The Hardhats would go on to win game one 7-6 in eight innings. Post 22 would flip the script in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the 7th before throwing out the winning run at home to force extra innings.
Game two ended 7-4 in favor of Rapid City. Easton Feser led the offense over the two games for Yankton, finishing 4 for 8 with three doubles, four RBIs, and two runs scored.
Yankton, now 18-8 on the season, are off until July 7th when they host Brandon Valley for a Class A doubleheader at Riverside Field.
Yankton’s Ellia Homstad took 4th at the Sanford International Series golf tournament yesterday at Spearfish Canyon Golf Course.
Homstad shot an 83 in the final round to bring her two-day total to 160. Kaitlin Strain of Rapid City won the event with a 149, while Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun shot 153 to take 2nd place.
South Central League representatives Yankton and Tabor are both 5th in their respective South Dakota Amateur Baseball polls.
The Yankton Lakers are currently 5th in Class A. When the poll was announced, Yankton was the lone undefeated team remaining in the South Central League with an 8-0 record.
The Tabor Bluebirds sit 5th in Class B this week. Tabor was 6-1 in league play when the polls were released, with their only loss coming to Yankton. Complete rankings for both classes are available below.
