Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball returns home this afternoon to take on Brookings Post 74 in a Class A doubleheader.
Yankton is 6th in the latest Class A standings with an 8-4 league record. Post 12 is 16-6 overall so far this season. Brookings is 9th in Class A with a 7-4 league record.
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM this afternoon, with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 4:15. Brayden Butler and Josh Boelter will be on the call.
University of South Dakota athlete Tre Young has been named the Summit League Men’s Field Athlete of the year, the conference announced yesterday.
Young, a senior from Toledo, Ohio, ended his USD career with a Summit League championship in the men’s pole vault and an 18th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Young joins a prestigious group of former Coyotes to win the award, joining Chris Nilsen (2017, 2018, and 2019), Eerik Haamer (2022), Marshall Faurot (2024), and Cody Snyder (2015).
A Coyote athlete has won the award in seven of the last ten seasons.
South Dakota State’s Rod DeHaven has been named the Summit League Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.
DeHaven guided the Jackrabbits’ men’s outdoor team to a conference title in May, capping a sweep of the cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field titles for SDSU in 2024-25, earning coach of the year honors for each sport.
Award recipients were selected by a vote from the League’s head coaches and based on the student-athletes’ respective performances throughout the 2025 outdoor season.
Vermillion’s Kaden Elder and Scotland/Menno’s Ken Bruckner have been selected as assistant track and field coaches of the year in the respective areas by the SDCCTFCA.
Bruckner was selected in Area three for Class A, while Elder was chosen for Area two in Class A.
Yankton alum Chris Koletzky was also honored by the SDCCTFCA, earning boys’ assistant coach of the year in the Class AA West Area for Sturgis.
The Yankton Lakers remain atop the South Central League standings following another weekend of league play, followed closely by Tabor.
Yankton is the lone undefeated team left in league play at 8-0. Tabor is 1.5 games behind the Lakers with a 6-1 league record. Wynot sits 3rd at 6-3.
Rounding out the SCL standings are Lesterville in 4th, Freeman in 5th, Crofton in 6th, Menno in 7th, and Irene in 8th.
South Central League play resumes on Thursday with Tabor hosting Menno and Yankton traveling to Wynot.
