Yankton’s Rozlyn Adamson and Connor Slaba competed at the Nike Outdoor National Track and Field meet this past week in Eugene, Oregon.
Adamson competed in the middle School division on Thursday and Friday, finishing 9th in the 200 with a time of 25.75 seconds and 13th in the 100-meter prelims at 12.72 seconds.
Slaba ran on Saturday in the emerging elite division, placing 45th in the 400 with a time of 50.42 seconds, and 69th in the 200 prelims in 22.58 seconds.
Adamson is entering her freshman year in Yankton this fall, while Slaba graduated from Yankton High School in May. Slaba will compete in Football and Track and Field at the collegiate level for Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa.
Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball will have a pair of home doubleheaders this week, beginning tomorrow afternoon against Brookings Post 74.
Yankton is 6th in the latest Class A standings with an 8-4 league record. Post 12 is 16-6 overall so far this season. Brookings is 9th in Class A with a 7-4 league record.
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM tomorrow afternoon, with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 4:15.
University of South Dakota Freshman Berkeley Engelland placed 4th this past weekend in the women’s 800-meter at the U20 Nationals in Eugene, Oregon.
Engelland, a Mitchell, South Dakota native, ran a time of 2:09.48 to take home fourth place.
Fellow Coyote athletes Anna Willis and Mariah Fenske also competed earlier in the week. Willis took 1st in the women’s pole vault while Fenske placed 9th in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The Yankton Lakers swept Irene yesterday in the South Central League Amateur Baseball doubleheader, winning 12-4 and 17-1.
Will Rauch led the Lakers with three hits and four runs scored in game one, with Hudson Waldow earning the win on the mound. Jacob Kribell and Bryant Knodel both recorded two hits for Irene
Rauch continued his hot streak at the plate in game two, finishing with three hits, two for home runs, and five RBIs. Kieran Luellman struck out six batters over five innings for the win on the mound.
Yankton returns to league play on Thursday with a road game against Wynot. Irene’s next league matchup will be a doubleheader with Crofton on July 6th.
Crofton picked up their 2nd South Central League win of the season last night, defeating Freeman 10-6.
Seth Wiebelhaus and Colton Schieffer had a pair of hits each in the win, with Zach Hegge driving in three runs. Capp Bengston was credited with the win, striking out four batters in 3 and 1/3rd innings.
Bailey Sage led Freeman in the loss, finishing 3 for 5 at the plate. Colton Spader was tagged with the loss.
Crofton is now 2-6 in league play with the win. Their next league opponent will be Mennon on Sunday, June 29th. Freeman falls to 4-5 in the SCL. The Black Sox will host Wynot in their next league game on June 29th.
The Dakota Golf Tour finished up their three-day tour event at Fox Run Golf Course on Sunday.
Braxton Watts won the pro division by 10 strokes, shooting 16 under par for the 54-hole tournament. The low amateur score was Brandon Frick from Yankton who shot a 79 79 78 for a five stroke victory.
The tour next weekend will move to Watertown and return to Yankton at the end of July, hosted at Hillcrest Country Club.
