Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball split their road doubleheader with Sioux Falls Post 15 West last night, losing game one 10-5 before winning game two 6-2.
Matthew Sheldon and Tate Beste led the offense with two hits each, with Sheldon adding a run and an RBI. Kael Garry was given the loss on the mound, throwing 77 pitches over 4 and 2/3rds innings with four strikeouts and six runs allowed.
Evan Serck went 3 for 3 at the plate in game two, Easton Feser added two hits of his own as well as three RBIs. Beck Ryken pitched six innings, striking out four batters for the win on the mound.
Yankton is now 16-6 overall this season, 8-4 in Class A play. Post 12 returns home next week for a pair of doubleheaders at Riverside Field against Brookings Post 74 on Tuesday and Rapid City Post 22 on Thursday.
Coverage for both doubleheaders will be available on KYNT and KYNTV beginning forty-five minutes before first pitch.
Rozlyn Adamson placed 3rd in her heat and 13th overall in the girls’ 100-meter dash in the middle school division of the Nike Outdoor Track and Field Nationals yesterday in Eugene, Oregon.
Adamson finished with a time of 12.72 seconds, 0.17 seconds off of a top-8 spot. Sixty-seven runners competed in the event.
Adamson will be back in action today for the girls’ 200-meter run. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:56 Central time.
Also competing at the Nike Outdoor Nationals is Connor Slaba. Slaba will run in the emerging elite division of the boys’ 400 and 200-meter runs. The 400 will take place at 1:47 on Saturday, with the 200-meter prelims set for 6:15 Saturday evening.
South Dakota Coyotes Women’s Soccer announced the signing of Nebraska transfer Lucy McCabe.
McCabe joins USD after a season at Nebraska. During her high school career, McCabe earned All-Conference honors and was an All-State Honorable Mention.
McCabe, a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, intends to major in biology during her time at USD.
South Dakota Freshman Anna Willis took first place in the women’s pole vault yesterday at the USA Track and Field Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Willis cleared a height of 14 feet, 3 and 1/4ths inches to win the event. The U-20 championship for Willis follows her 4th-place finish at the NCAA Championships last week.
Two other USD athletes are also competing at the U20 Championships. Mariah Fenske placed 9th in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Berkeley Engelland will run in the women’s 800 tonight at 7:26 Central time.
The Yankton Lakers are 9-0 on the year following a 1-0 win over the Menno Mad Frogs last night in South Central League play.
Yankton is the only remaining undefeated team in the league, with a 7-0 mark against SCL opponents.
The Lakers also entered the top-5 in the latest South Dakota Class A Amateur Baseball polls this week, ranked at #5. The Harrisburg Woodies are #1, the Renner Monarchs are #2, the Brookings Cubs are #3, and the Sioux Falls Squirrels are #4. Aberdeen Circus and the Sioux Falls Brewers also received votes.
The Tabor Bluebirds defeated the Lesterville Broncs last night in South Central League action, 15-8 in Tabor.
With the win, Tabor improves to 6-1 on the year while Lesterville falls to 5-5 in league play.
The Bluebirds are also tied for 5th in the latest South Dakota Class B Amateur Baseball polls with the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks.
South Central League Amateur Baseball returns to action on Sunday with a single game and a doubleheader on the schedule.
Yankton will take on Irene in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 PM, with Crofton hosting Freeman for a single game at 6:00.
