Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball returns home this afternoon to host Smitty’s Legion of Aberdeen in a Class A doubleheader.
Yankton is tied for 5th with Renner in the latest Class A standings. Post 12 holds a 13-5 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in Class A play after splitting their last two doubleheaders with Rapid City Post 320 on June 11th and against Watertown Post 17 on June 3rd.
Aberdeen enters today’s contest 1-14 overall, 0-10 in Class A games, sitting 15th in the standings.
First pitch of game one at Riverside Field is set for 3:00 PM this afternoon. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 2:15. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.
The South Central Amateur Baseball League has two league games scheduled for tomorrow night.
Tabor will host Lesterville in one of the two games to kick off Czech Days. Tabor enters 2nd in the league standings with a 5-1 record, while Lesterville sits in 4th place with a 5-4 record.
The Yankton Lakers will travel to Menno to take on the Mad Frogs in the other SCL matchup of the night. Yankton is 8-0 on the year, 6-0 in South Central League play, after picking up a non-league win over Sioux City on Monday, 10-9 at Riverside Field. Yankton is 1st in the standings as the lone undefeated team remaining. Menno enters the matchup tied with Crofton for 7th in the SCL standings at 1-6.
Games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM tomorrow.
South Dakota Coyotes head football coach Travis Johansen announced the addition of Linebackers Coach Will Finley to his staff yesterday afternoon.
Finley comes to USD after serving in the same role for Lindenwood over the last two years. During his tenure, Lindenwood earned its first-ever win over an FCS top-10 ranked opponent, defeating #6 Southeast Missouri State in 2024.
Before his time at the NCAA Division I level, Finley was the head coach at Waldorf in the NAIA, earning a 20-10 record over three seasons. He led the Warriors to their highest ranking in program history, #22 in the NAIA, in 2022.
Joining Finley in Vermillion will be his wife, Kallie, and their three son,s Barrett, Lincoln, and Turner.
Seven South Dakota State Jackrabbits representing the wrestling and men’s and women’s golf programs have been selected as members of the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At Large Teams.
Representing the wrestling team were 6th-year grad student Cade DeVos, redshirt sophomore Bennett Berge, and junior Derrick Cardinal, with all three having been selected to advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration in July.
Sophomore Drew Teeter was the lone selection for men’s golf, while senior Shakira-Ann Kuys, senior Piper Stubbs, and junior McKenzie Mages were selected for women’s golf.
To be nominated for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing and carry at least a 3.50 grade-point average.
