Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball returns to the diamond tomorrow, hosting Smitty’s Legion of Aberdeen in a Class A doubleheader at Riverside Field.
Yankton is tied for 5th in the latest available Class A standings, while Aberdeen is 15th. Post 12 holds a 13-5 overall record, 5-3 against Class A opponents.
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM tomorrow afternoon. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 2:15. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Yankton Post 12’s Junior Legion squad took home the top spot in their home tournament this past weekend, defeating Beresford 5-0 in the championship game.
Liam Villanueva recorded two hits and three RBIs for Post 12. Kaden Hunhoff pitched a complete game shutout on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out four batters.
The Irene Cardinals and Menno Mad Frogs split their South Central League Baseball doubleheader on Sunday in Menno.
The Mad Frogs won game one 15-0. Connor Merriam led Menno at the plate, finishing 3 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Jared Hedahl allowed only one hit on the mound for the win.
Irene recovered to take game two 16-9. Anthony De La Torre Guglielmana recorded four hits and three RBIs for the Cardinals, while Alex Kopf added three hits and scored four runs. Marcus VanDriel earned the win on the mound, striking out ten batters.
Menno is back in action on Thursday, hosting Yankton, while Irene is off until Sunday for a doubleheader, also against Yankton.
The Wynot Expos picked up a 4-1 win over South Central League foe Crofton on Sunday, improving to 6-3 in league play.
Jackson Sudbeck pitched the complete game for Wynot, recording ten strikeouts. Lee Heimes and Nate Wieseler both doubled for the Expos.
Seth and Jared Wiebelhaus led Crofton at the plate as both recorded two hits in the loss. Zach Hegge was credited with the loss, striking out eight batters over five innings of work.
Wynot will have an extended break in league play, returning to action on June 26th against Yankton. Crofton will have their next league game on Sunday against Menno in Crofton.
The Freeman Black Sox are back to .500 in South Central League play following their 14-4 win over Lesterville on Sunday.
Bailey Sage ended the day 3 for 3 at the plate with four RBIs for Freeman. Avery Mellman added four RBIs as well and picked up the win on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings.
Ethan Wishon led the Broncs with a pair of hits, including a double in the loss. Hunter Martin, Michael Drotzmann, and Garret Damico all recorded a hit as well.
Freeman travels to Crofton for their next game on Sunday, while Lesterville’s next league game is scheduled for June 29th against Yankton.
