The City of Yankton has reported a taxpayer error that occurred last February.
City Finance Officer, Lisa Yardley, says the city was notified by the South Dakota Department of Revenue that the error attributed sales tax fillings to Yankton.
Yardley says the return was submitted with a credit to the City of Yankton in the amount of $362,061.87.
Yardley says this brings down the city’s sales tax total down from 7.43% to -0.79%.
Yankton City Manager, Amy Leon, says this will impact some city projects.
Leon says that the city takes the matter of handling the public’s money very seriously.
