The South Dakota High School Softball State tournaments begin today for Class AA, A, and B, with several area teams set to compete.
In Class A, Vermillion enters as the #8 seed. They will face top-seeded West Central in round one at 10:00 AM on June 5th.
In Class B, Bon Homme, Gayville-Volin, and Avon all qualified for the tournament. Bon Homme is the #2 seed. They will face #7 Mobridge-Pollack in round one at 2:00 PM. Gayville-Volin earned the #6 seed in the tournament. They will face #3 Castlewood in round one at 4:00 PM. Avon is the #8 seed. They will face top-seeded Deuel in round one at 10:00 AM.

The Lewis and Clark Baseball Classic will begin tomorrow with Yankton Post 12 hosting one of four sites at Riverside Field.
Yankton will play the first and last games of the day, at 8:00 AM and 7:30 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNTV begins 45 minutes before the first pitch.
The Yankton School District has announced its 2025 Spring Sports Athletes of the Year.
Zac Briggs was chosen for Bucks Tennis, Ellia Homstad was selected for Gazelles Golf, Alivia Dimmer was selected for Gazelles Track and Field, Connor Slaba was recognized for Bucks Track and Field, and Kyra Tjeerdsma was chosen for Gazelles Softball.
Two Yankton Softball athletes have been selected to the Eastern South Dakota All-Conference team for the 2025 season.
Juniors Eliza Gurney and Kyra Tjeerdsma were named to the team after helping lead Yankton to a SoDak 16 appearance.
Yankton was one of four teams with multiple athletes named All-ESD. Harrisburg and Brandon Valley tied for a conference-high five selections each.
South Central League Amateur Baseball returns to action tonight with three matchups on the schedule.
Yankton will travel to Lesterville to take on the Broncs, Tabor will play host to Crofton, and Menno will be on the road against Wynot.
All games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM.
Norfolk, Nebraska, will play host to “Volleyball Day” on Friday, June 13th, with the city planning a kids’ clinic followed by a scrimmage and All-Star game.
Members of the Northeast Nebraska All-Star Volleyball teams will compete on an outdoor court in Norfolk’s Veterans Memorial Baseball Field.
Cedar Catholic’s Melayna McGregor and Bailey Hochstein will compete in the All-Star game. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM on June 13th.
