Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball is now 4 and 2 on the season after splitting their doubleheader with Watertown Post 17 yesterday afternoon.
Yankton took game one 3 to 1. Gavin Johnson, Beck Ryken, and Tate Beste each recorded a pair of hits, with Beste and Ryken both scoring a run. Mark Kathol earned the win on the mound, striking out six batters and allowing one run over six innings.
Game two was a 7 to 3 loss for Post 12. Gavin Johnson recorded two hits again for Yankton, as did Trey Sager. Yankton threw four pitchers in the game, with Beck Ryken being tagged with the loss.
Yankton returns home for the Lewis and Clark Classic this weekend. The three-day event will run Friday through Sunday at Riverside Field.
Yankton Gazelles Golf placed 8th as a team at the Class AA State Championships with a two-day total of 746.
Ellia Homstad and Sabrina Krajewski both placed in the top 20. Homstad finished 17th while Krajewski ended the tournament in 20th.
Of the six members on this year’s state tournament, Olivia Chipman was the lone senior. Ellia Homstad, Sabrina Krajewski, Bailey Anderson, Harper Anderson, and Olivia Woods rounded out the Gazelles squad.
South Central League Amateur Baseball returns to action tomorrow night with three matchups on the schedule.
Yankton will travel to Lesterville to take on the Broncs, Tabor will play host to Crofton, and Menno will be on the road against Wynot. All games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM on Thursday.
South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball coach Eric Peterson has announced the signing of Jonah Funk for the 2025-26 recruiting class.
The 6’10 incoming Freshman joins USD from Metamora, Illinois. During his senior season, Funk was a unanimous First Team All-Mid-Illini Conference selection.
Funk joins Vince Buzelis, Uzziah Buntyn, and Jesse McIntosh in the incoming freshman class for the Coyotes.
South Dakota Coyotes Softball had three players earn Academic All-Conference honors, announced by the league office yesterday.
Abi Brown, Autumn Iversen, and Tatum Villotta were all named to the list. This is the eighth year in a row USD has had an athlete named Academic All-Conference.
