Cale Haselhorst claimed the lone state title for Yankton at this past weekend’s Class AA State Track and Field Championships, placing 1st in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles.
Haselhorst helped lead the Bucks to a 5th-place tie as a team with 49 points. The Gazelles finished 12th as a team with 27 points. Top-8 finishers for the Bucks and Gazelles are listed below.

- Connor Slaba placed 3rd in the 200 and 2nd in the 400.

- Alivia Dimmer placed 5th in the 100-meter hurdles and 7th in the 300-meter hurdles.

- Burkley Olson placed 5th in the long jump.

Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball improved to 3 and 1 last night with a doubleheader sweep of Harrisburg Post 45 Gold.
Yankton won game one 4 to 3. Trey Sager scored a pair of runs for Yankton as they drew ten walks as a team. Boston Frick earned the win on the mound, pitching two and two-thirds innings of relief with 3 strikeouts and no runs allowed.
Game two was a 10 to 6 win for Yankton. Gavin Johnson led the offense with a pair of hits, including a two-run home run. Chase Cooley was credited with the win on the mound.
Post 12 hits the road tomorrow to take on Watertown Post 17. First pitch of game one in Watertown is set for 1:00 PM.
The South Dakota High School Class AA Girls’ Golf State Championships begin today, with the Yankton Gazelles set to compete.
The two-day event will be held at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls. Tee time for day one is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
Scotland-Menno’s Trinity Bietz (Beets) ended her high school track and field career with a pair of Class A State Championships this past weekend.
Bietz took the top spot in both the girls’ shot put and the discus. The shot put championship was the third straight for Bietz.

- Mico Beal, Jacob Fischer, Bryce Voss, and Ian Job placed 8th in the boys’ 400-meter relay and 8th in the 800-meter relay.
- Frankie Orr, Caleb Chasing Hawk, Gage Beverly, and Kade Reuvers placed 8th in the boys’ 3200-meter relay.
The South Dakota High School Softball State Tournaments for Classes AA, A and B begin this week, with several area teams scheduled to compete.
In Class A, Vermillion enters as the #8 seed. They will face top-seeded West Central in round one at 10:00 AM on June 5th.
In Class B, Bon Homme, Gayville-Volin, and Avon all qualified for the tournament. Bon Homme is the #2 seed. They will face #7 Mobridge-Pollack in round one at 2:00 PM. Gayville-Volin earned the #6 seed in the tournament. They will face #3 Castlewood in round one at 4:00 PM. Avon is the #8 seed. They will face top-seeded Deuel in round one at 10:00 AM.
All tournament games will be held at the Players Softball Complex in Aberdeen. Games begin on June 5th and will run through the 7th.
