Local Sports 5/30/25

Yankton Track and Field competed in several events yesterday on the first day of the Class AA State Meet in Sioux Falls.

The competitions included a variety of prelims and event finals, with Yankton multiple athletes placing top-8 in their prelim events.

• The boys’ 400-meter relay team of Alex Swihart, Carson Ness, Evan Serck, and Connor Slaba placed 4th in their prelim with a time of 42.80 seconds.
• The boys’ 3200-meter relay team of Bryton Olson, Luke Feimer, Owen Eidsness, and Ethan Brenden placed 13th in the final.
• The boys’ sprint medley relay team of Alex Swihart, Evan Serck, Carson Ness, and Abram Chance placed 9th in the final.
• Cale Haselhorst finished 19th in the boys’ triple jump finals and 1st in the 110-meter hurdle prelims.
• Miles Drotzmann placed 5th in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles prelims.

• Rozlyn Adamson placed 7th in the girls’ 100-meter prelims.
• Alivia Dimmer placed 6th in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles prelims.
• The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Burkley Olson, Alivia Dimmer, Josslyn Elwood, and Rozlyn Adamson placed 7th in the prelims.
• The girls’ 3200-meter relay team of Rilyn Jackson, Delaney Youmans, Ava Johanneson, and Abby Johanneson placed 11th in the finals.
• The girls’ sprint medley relay team of Aucianna Seiler, Tyan Beste, Rylie Moser, and Rilyn Jackson placed 11th in the final.
• Quinn Brinkman placed 21st in the girls’ triple jump finals.

Top-8 finishers in prelim events advance to the finals. Day two of the Class AA State Championships is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM at Howard Wood Field.

Several Area Athletes competed in the opening day of the Class A and B State Track and Field Championships yesterday at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

Area High School State Track and Field Results:

Avon (Class B):

• Al Gunter placed 3rd in the boys’ discus.
• Kaeli Wallinga placed 11th in the girls’ discus.
• Lila Vanderlei placed 13th in the girls’ discus.
• Lexi Vanderlei placed 16th in the girls’ discus.
• Aziah Meyer placed 2nd in the boys’ long jump.
• The boys’ 3200-meter relay team of Easton Sees, Rance Kuhlman, John Fathke, and Zander Fathke placed 15th.
• The boys’ sprint medley relay team of John Fathke, Aziah Meyer, Easton Sees, and Grayson Ratzlaff placed 18th.

Bon Homme (Class A):

• The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Jasmine Ruelas, Delia Knoll, Chandra Jelsma, and Taycee Ranek placed 23rd in the prelims.

Gayville-Volin(Class B):

• Taylor Hoxeng placed 8th in the girls’ 100-meter prelims and 15th in the long jump.
• Aliza Westrum placed 14th in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles prelims.
• Miley Hansen placed 15th in the girls’ pole vault.
• The girls’ sprint medley relay team of Ayla Dimmer, Taylor Hoxeng, Payton Logan, and Jolie Westrum placed 14th.

Irene-Wakonda (Class B):

• Maryn Lyngstad placed 12th in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles prelims.
• Emily Oien placed 12th in the girls’ pole vault.
• Callie Peterson placed 15th in the girls’ pole vault.
• The girls’ 3200-meter relay team of Rose Libby, Maryn Lyngstad, Ava George, and Brenna Lyngstad placed 14th.
• The boys’ 3200-meter relay team of Jens Hansen, Jordan Stockland, Kaleb Huber, and Hayden Hansen placed 20th.

• Ian Job placed 21st in the boys’ 100-meter prelims.

• The boys’ 3200-meter relay team of Frankie Orr, Caleb Chasing Hawk, Gage Beverly, and Kade Reuvers placed 8th.
• The girls’ 3200-meter relay team of Callie Radigan, Flynn Peterson, Lydia Anderson, and Eleanor Anderson placed 10th.
• The boys’ sprint medley relay team of Elijah Lara, Jacob Fischer, Frankie Orr, and Kade Reuvers placed 11th.
• The girls’ sprint medley relay team of Marasia Warren, Julise Shaw, Elanor Anderson, and Callie Radigan placed 16th.
• The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Josie Askew, Eleanor Anderson, Julise Shaw, and Marasia Warren placed 17th in the prelims.

The South Dakota High School Class AA Girls’ Golf State Championships begin on Monday, with the Yankton Gazelles set to compete.

The two-day event will be held at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls. Tee time for day one is scheduled for 9:00 AM on Monday morning.

A new school record was set on the track, and a pair of University of South Dakota pole vaulters earned their spots in the NCAA Track and Field National Championships yesterday at the NCAA West First Round in College Station, Texas.

Sara Reifenrath set a new USD record in the 400-meter run, finishing in 52.01 seconds to qualify for the quarterfinals. Reifenrath also qualified for the quarterfinals in the 200-meter dash. Also on the track, Averi Schmeichel advanced to the quarterfinals in the 400-meter hurdles.

In the field, both Gen Hirata and Anna Willis qualified for the NCAA National Meet in the women’s pole vault after both cleared 14-6 (4.42 meters). Lydia Knapp just missed out on a top-12 qualification spot in the women’s hammer throw, placing 13th.

The NCAA West First Round continues today.

South Central Baseball League Results (5/29/25):

• Freeman defeated Crofton 7 to 6.
• Tabor topped Menno 10 to 5.
• Lesterville fell to Wynot 14 to 4.
