Four Yankton Bucks have been selected as Class A Baseball All-State honorees, two on the first team and two on the second team.
Juniors Beck Ryken and Samuel Gokie were chosen to the first team, with junior Gavin Johnson and senior Mark Kathol earning a spot on the second team.
The quartet helped lead the Bucks to the #5 seed in this year’s state tournament, which begins today in Sioux Falls. They will face the #4 seed Sioux Falls Jefferson in round one.
First pitch from Sioux Falls Stadium is set for 2:30 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT begins at 1:45. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Mount Marty Sophomore Mya Zohner earned All-American honors in the women’s pole vault yesterday with a 6th place finish at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
Zohner cleared 12-3 ¾ to earn a 6th-place finish. MMU Freshman Paige Clausen did not clear the opening height in the event. For the Lancer men, Austin Gobel, Carl Massa, Chris Munoz-Sturgeon, and Zavio Prato placed 29th in the 1600-meter relay prelims.
Today is the third and final day of the NAIA Outdoor Championships. Luke Rettedal is entered into the men’s shot put as the Lone Lancer yet to compete.
Yankton Track and Field set a new school record in the boys’ 400-meter relay yesterday at the O’Gorman Last Chance track and field meet.
The team of Alex Swihart, Carson Ness, Evan Serck and Connor Slaba finished the 400 relay in 42.60 seconds to set a new school record. The same group also placed 2nd in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:29.77.
Cale Haselhorst picked up the lone win of the day for Yankton in the 110 hurdles. Slaba added to his relay success with 3rd-place finishes in the 100 and 200, while William Rounds was runner-up in the pole vault.
Quinn Brinkman placed 2nd in the high jump, Maddie Tereshinski took 2nd in the discus, and Burkely Olson finished 2nd in the long jump to lead the Gazelles. Rozlyn Adamson, Alivia Dimmer, Tyan Beste, and Rilyn Jackson also placed 2nd in the 1600 relay.
Yesterday’s meet was the last of the regular season for Yankton, with the state meet scheduled for May 29th through the 31st in Sioux Falls.
After the opening day of the Class AA State Tournament, Yankton Bucks Tennis is fourth in the team standings, with multiple athletes still in contention for state titles. Opening day results for all Bucks athletes are listed below.
Singles play:
- At flight one, Zachary Briggs advanced to the 5th-place finals, going 2-1 yesterday. Briggs will face Sioux Falls Lincoln’s River McKenzie for 5th place today.
- At flight two, Harrison Krajewski advanced to the championship semifinals with a pair of wins. He will face top-seeded Jackson Hancock of Harrisburg in his first match today, with the winner advancing to the state championship match.
- At flight three, Christopher Rockne went 1-1 on day one, he will compete against Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Charlie Erickson for the consolation championship.
- At flight four, Luke Moeller won his opening match before falling in the championship quarterfinals and the 5th-place semifinals, eliminating him from singles play.
- At flight five, Ethan Marsh went 2-1 on the opening day to advance to the 5th-place finals. Marsh will take on Mitchell’s Dawson Adams today for 5th place.
- At flight six, Patrick Kralicek went 2-1 on day one to earn a spot in the 5th place finals. Kralicek will face Rapid City Stevens’ Landin Roozenboom for 5th today.
Doubles Play:
- At flight one, Zachary Briggs and Harrison Krajewski will compete for a state championship today after going 3-0 on day one, including an upset of the 2nd-seeded O’Gorman. Briggs and Krajewski will face a team from Sioux Falls Lincoln in the championship match.
- At flight two, Christopher Rockne and Luke Moeller are in the consolation semifinals after going 1-1 on day one. They will face Sioux Falls Washington in the semifinals, with the winner advancing to the consolation championship match.
- At flight three, Ethan Marsh and Patrick Kralicek went 2-1 on day one, advancing to the championship semifinals before falling to top-seeded Harrisburg. Marsh and Kralicek will face Mitchell today for 3rd place.
Yankton Gazelles Softball fell in both of their games yesterday to end their regular season.
Yankton lost to Tea Area in game one 7 to 1, before ending their regular season with a 17-1 loss to Harrisburg. The Tigers are currently the #1 ranked team in the Class AA standings.
SoDak 16 matchups have not yet been finalized, but the Gazelles are currently ranked 13th in the class.
Yankton Gazelles Golf placed fifth out of thirteen teams at yesterday’s Brookings Invitational at the Brookings County Club.
Yankton shot a 365 as a team, led by a 10th place finish from Ellia Homstad, who shot an 83. Sabrina Krajewski shot an 89, Bailey Anderson scored a 96, and Harper Anderson shot 97 to round out Yankton’s scoring.
Yankton is scheduled to be back in action today for the Brandon Valley Invitational. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM at the Brandon Golf Course.
The 2025 Lancer Open benefiting the Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Golf programs will take place tomorrow at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton.
MMU Head Men’s Golf Coach Darin Cunningham says the Lancer Open is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the golf programs.
Registration for the Lancer Open is $400 for a four-man team. The event will be a scramble format with a shotgun start at 10:00 AM.
