Yankton Bucks Tennis finished 2nd at the ESD Conference Tournament thanks to a trio of runner-up finishes.
Zachary Briggs placed 2nd at flight one singles, Harrison Krajewski took 2nd at flight two singles, and they both placed 2nd at flight one duos as a team. Also for the Bucks, Ethan Marsh was 3rd at F5 singles, Patrick Kralicek was 3rd at F6 singles, Christopher Rockne claimed the consolation title at F3 singles, and Luke Moeller took the consolation title at F4 singles.
Rounding out doubles play for Yankton, Rockne and Moeller were 3rd in flight two, and Kralicek and Marsh were 3rd at flight three.
Yankton scored 244.5 points as a team to take 2nd. Harrisburg won eight of nine possible flights to score 441.5 points to claim the title.
The Bucks’ next event is the South Dakota State Class AA Boys’ Tennis Championships, which will be held May 22-23 in Sioux Falls.
A pair of former Mount Marty Lancers are among the 12 greats to be inducted into the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
Lancer alums George Bettelyoun of Pine Ridge and NaTascha (Dawson) Krempges of Howard will be inducted during a banquet in Sioux Falls on August 23rd.
Bettelyoun was a member of Pine Ridge’s 1987 Class A state championship team, which finished with a 26-0 record. He was named South Dakota Mr. Basketball in his senior season.
Krempges averaged 19 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals per game during her senior season in 1995. She was a member of Howard’s Class A state championship team in 1993 and on the state runner-up team in 1995.
Yankton Gazelles softball improved to 6 and 11 last night with a 15 to 3 win over the Beresford Watchdogs at Sertoma Park in Yankton.
The Gazelles are 13th in the Class AA standings at 38.471 seed points with two games remaining in the regular season.
Yankton will have their home finale against Tea Area on May 19th before ending the regular season on the road against Harrisburg on May 23rd.
Yankton Gazelles Golf fell to the Mitchell Kernels yesterday in the annual Marchand Cup, 18.5 to 1.5 in Mitchell.
The win is the third straight for Mitchell in the Ryder Cup-style tournament. Gazelles Golf returns to Mitchell on Friday for an invitational at Lake View Golf Course at 10:30 AM.
