The Mount Marty Lancers had their 2025 baseball season come to an end last night with a 6-5 loss to Briar Cliff in the GPAC Championship.
Aiden Chang reached base five times in the loss. He recorded two hits, a walk, and was hit by a pitch twice. Cooper Mlnarik (Mil-nair-ik) also had two hits with two RBIs.
The Lancers end their season with a 29-21 record, 12-16 in GPAC play. Briar Cliff earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament with the win.
Yankton Gazelles Softball fell in a close game with the Vermillion Tanagers last night, losing 4-3 in Vermillion.
Madison Girard recorded two RBIs for the Gazelles, hitting a home run in the loss. Madison Musfeldt and Eliza Gurney added two hits each.
Yankton travels across the state for their next games, as they take on Rapid City Stevens, Spearfish, and Sturgis this weekend.
Yankton Bucks Tennis split their two matches in Mitchell yesterday, defeating Pierre 9-0 before falling to the Kernels 5-4.
Against Pierre, Zachary Briggs and Christopher Rockne each earned 10-1 victories in singles play, with Briggs and Harrison Krajewski earning a 10-1 decision in doubles play.
Briggs, Krajewski, and Luke Moeller won in singles play against Mitchell, with Briggs and Krajewski picking up the Bucks’ lone doubles win.
Yankton travels to Sioux Falls today for a triangular. They’ll face Sioux Falls Lincoln at 11:00 AM and Sioux Falls Christian at 1:00 PM.
Yankton Gazelles Golf hosts Mitchell, Sioux Falls Jefferson, and Sioux Falls Lincoln today in a quadrangular at Fox Run Golf Course.
Today is the first of back-to-back competitions at Fox Run for the Gazelles. They’re scheduled to host a 15-team invitational on Friday.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) President’s Council has approved a new governance structure ahead of the upcoming retirement of Commissioner Patty Viverito on June 30th of this year.
This agreement places Jeff Jackson as the commissioner of the MVFC with Josh Fenton as the Executive Advisor. Jackson has served as the commissioner of the Missouri Valley Conference since July of 2021, with Fenton having been the Summit League commissioner since April of 2023.
As part of the newly adopted structure, the MVFC will remain an independent legal entity, distinct from its member institutions’ multisport conferences.
The MVFC is made up of 10 institutions from three different all-sport conferences. South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota, and North Dakota State of the Summit League. Murray State, Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana State, and Northern Iowa of the MVC, and Youngstown State of the Horizon League.
