The Lancers would recover a fumble late in the game and kick a field goal as time expired to force the extra period. After a score on their offensive possession, the Lancers would stop the Tigers on 4th and 1.
The Lancers look to start their season 3 and 0 for the first time in program history next week, on the road against Northwestern College.
Yankton Bucks Football is now 1 and 1 on the season, suffering their first defeat last Friday at the hands of Watertown 27-13.
The Bucks were down 20-0 in the first half until senior receiver Connor Slaba caught a 62-yard touchdown from Easton Nelson.
Yankton is back on the road Friday for a matchup with the Douglas Patriots in Box Elder.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball fell to the defending state champion Harrisburg Tigers on Saturday, 3 sets to 0.
Alivia Dimmer recorded 5 kills and a block for the Gazelles, while Alaina Nelson added 5 assists and 7 digs.
Yankton returns home tonight to host the Watertown Arrows. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM, with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 6:30. Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Mount Marty Volleyball fell to #15 ranked Morningside on Saturday, as the Mustangs took a 3-0 victory in Yankton.
Julia Weber led the Lancers with 10 kills, followed by Grace Nesdahl with 7. Tevan Erickson tallied 22 assists and 7 digs.
The Lancers will be on the road for their next match, taking on Midland on Wednesday in Fremont, Nebraska.
Yankton Gazelles Soccer is receiving votes in the latest Class AA Coaches polls, released over the weekend.
Yankton is 4-3-1 on the season coming off of a loss to O’Gorman in their last match.
The Gazelles and the Bucks return to action tomorrow for a road doubleheader against Brandon Valley. The Gazelles play at 4:00 PM with the Bucks to follow.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis went 2 and 0 last Friday night, defeating Spearfish 9-0 and Sioux Falls Jefferson 7-2.
With the wins, Yankton is now 12 and 3 on the year. Next up for the Gazelles is a dual with Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Friday.
Yankton Bucks Golf finished 4th in a home quadrangular on Friday, shooting a 319 as a team.
Harrisburg took the top team spot at 304. Individually, Yankton’s Easton Vellek took 3rd with a 76. Rounding out the scores for Yankton were Ryker Larson at 79, and Eli Larson and Kai Cody at 82.
Yankton is back home again on Friday for a 15-team invite at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Golf are both in action today in separate meets.
The Lancer men are scheduled to compete in day one of the Siouxland Invite hosted by Dordt, while the women will compete in the College of St Mary Fall Classic in Omaha.
Tee time for both invites is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
Mount Marty’s Logan Ferrari set a new Cross Country school record for the Augustana Twilight Meet last week.
Ferrari finished the race in 19 minutes, 40.99 seconds, the fastest of any Lancer man in the Augustana Meet. Along with Ferrari, Joseph Cross set the 3rd fastest time ever and the fastest for a freshman at 20 minutes, 20.26 seconds.
Next up for the Lancers is the Dordt Sunflower Open on Saturday.
South Dakota Coyotes Football fell to 1 and 1 on Saturday as they were defeated by Wisconsin 27-13.
Charles Pierre Jr. totaled just under 7 yards per carry, finishing with 82 yards on 12 carries.
USD plays their first FCS opponent of the season on Saturday, on the road against Portland State.
South Dakota State Football picked up their first win of the year on Saturday, defeating Incarnate Word 45-24.
Quarterback Mark Gronowski threw for 285 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win. Amar Johnson added 112 yards and 2 more touchdowns on the ground.
SDSU is now 1 and 1 on the year, as they turn their attention to a home game against Augustana on Saturday.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 2 and 0 and ranked #23 in the latest AP polls following their 28-10 victory over Colorado on Saturday.
Dante Dowdell rushed for 74 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Huskers. Freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola went 23 for 30 through the air for 185 yards and a touchdown.
The Huskers are back in action on Saturday, hosting the University of Northern Iowa.
