A Yankton man has been convicted of first-degree rape.
The Yankton County State’s Attorney’s Office says that 31-year-old Matthew Allan Carter of Yankton was found guilty of first-degree rape.
Carter was found guilty of First-Degree Rape of a minor less than thirteen-year-old age by a Yankton County jury on February 4th following a jury trial.
First Degree Rape is a Class C Felony. It carries a penalty of up to life imprisonment in the South Dakota State Penitentiary. In addition, a fine of $50,000 may be imposed.
Carter will be sentenced on April 4th at 11:00 A.M.
Last month, a federal jury had found Carter guilty of possessing child pornography.
This case was investigated by the Yankton Police Department and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
