Noem Wants to Repeal State’s Food Sales Tax

In her State of the State address yesterday, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says the state has a financial surplus, and she wants to use it to lower taxes.

Referencing a campaign promise she made in 2022, Noem says she wants to repeal the state’s sales tax on food.

The Governor’s address kicked off the first day of the 98th state legislature. The legislature is scheduled to meet for 38 days this year, ending on March 9th, with a veto day reserved for March 27th.
