The state of South Dakota had nearly eight hundred additional positive tests of COVID-19 confirmed yesterday, bringing the statewide total up to 7,312. In early August, the number of active cases in South Dakota was less than one thousand. There are currently 299 people hospitalized with the virus, and three deaths from the coronavirus were confirmed on Friday. The death toll in South Dakota rose to 307.
Yankton County reported one dozen more positive tests of COVID-19 yesterday but the number of active cases dropped to 137. Bon Homme County has 94 active cases of the virus after nine more positive tests were confirmed on Friday. Bon Homme County hit 200 positive tests overall since the pandemic began.
A mass testing this week at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield found 127 inmates testing positive out of 149, which is a positive test infection rate of 85 percent. There were 30 employees and staff members tested at the prison, and seven were positive for the virus.
The death toll from the coronavirus is now 547 in Nebraska after 12 more fatalities were reported yesterday. The death toll in Iowa is up to 1,521 after 16 more deaths were confirmed on Friday. Three more deaths were reported in Woodbury County, which now has 85 overall.
